Love it that you guys have scoped this out all the way to the Maine Coast. We're going to be riding from Northern Georgia to Maine this year and would like to use your route going north.

Can you please let us know for that part of the trail, from Maine to Tennessee, how much of it is on vs. off-road and for the off-road are there any challenging sections that might be of concern to a skilled rider on a 1200GS? How about KLRs loaded for camping?

Hi Twist,
Check out our blog at TLWH.us
I think it will tell you a lot about the trail.

Last week, I rode most of the northeastern part of the LWD that I hadn't ridden before on the TET. Found it very pleasant, and similar to the rest of the TAT. That is, all could probably be done on a big street bike, with a few places where that biker would wish for knobby tires, a smaller bike, longer shocks, or greater clearance (or some combination of the above).North-to-south in Vermont follows the Puppy Dog Ride, which is the most scenic of all the rides I've done, except for the TAT in Colorado. It's also easier than the Colorado tracks, because it was developed by a BMW club.A section roughly 3 miles long, starting roughly a mile west of Pittsburg Maine (if traveling west), is gated on both ends. If riding west, openings around the gate seem to invite motorcycles through, but the west end is much more difficult. Would recommend a dual sport if heading west, and a trials or enduro rider to get over the rocks if heading east. There's an easy, and obvious bypass on Route 3.Gandalf

I would like to know if you would be willing to share if your route is open or accessible to jeeps. As much as I respect those who like the two wheeled option of transportation, I much prefer thettere jeep kind answer would love to continue and or start a mutual respect between us two for the fact that we both lone the thought of back country traveling. If you would be willing to share, or collaborate with togehter, what you feel is open to jeeps as well that would be amazing and much appreciated. Thanks for any help and thanks for your hard work on putting something like this together. Hello, I am interested in this trail, but was wondering if a street legal bike is needed to ride it. Is it strictly off road, or are there some actual roads involved?

Thanks!
Micah
