23
Brief description of the programmeTechnical support for cost-effective implementation, evaluation and refinement of government mass deworming programs in countries in sub-Saharan Africa endemic for schistosomiasis (SCH) and soil-transmitted helminthiasis (STH)
24
Objective of the programmeTo be an effective partner to endemic country governments in the innovation, design, and delivery of interventions to reduce the prevalence and intensity of SCH and STH; to support the achievement of elimination of parasitic worm diseases as public health problems and the interruption of transmission.
25
Outcome descriptionTo reduce the prevalence, intensity and consequently associated morbidities of SCH and STH in supported countries over the intervention period
26
Target group (age specific/description)School-age children (SAC)SACSACPopulation group targeted to reach under the intervention
27
Total Target Population by age group/target group in number5,378,80511,269,5317,502,332
Data represents most recent accessible population reported to Unlimit Health. Total number of population targeted for the intervention in each year
28
Total Endemic Population (including non-targeted populations)10,176,55737,011,69929,151,321
Includes pre-SAC and Adults which do not currently receive drug donations through the WHO drug donation programme, but are included in WHO 2022 guidelines as target populations. This is an addition by UH to reflect the intricacies of treatment targeting for SCH with new 2022 WHO guidelines for SCH.
29
Gender distribution of the beneficiariesReporting of treatment data by gender is not consistent. Therefore, it would be best to use the generic country gender disaggregation values.
30
Programme start date201420132012
Programme started prior to these dates, typically the early 2000s, but these are effective dates for the analyses due to them being when baseline surveys were conducted.
31
Duration of the programme101112
Duration of the programme in years. This duration reflects the year which impact assessments were conducted. It should be noted that programmes then continue.

Cost of the programme/intervention in detailsThis is currently USD $0.43
Due to reporting of costs over the periods, Unlimit Health recommends utilising the cost per treatments.
