Med eye 16/24mmnatural, very soft and diffused (overcast)The detectives walk to the crime scene. They are the ones who will figure out what happened, they are the "heroes" of the story They have their own problems but try to do their job. Space: a shallower depth of focus hides the crime scene and show a flat space in which the characters reside. Movement: fast movement shows they control their environment.

1BCUEye 50mmnatural, very soft and diffused (overcast)The deputy and the detectives react to the crime scene Trugh their reaction, the audience knows the scene is not pleasant, each characters react differently and that tells a lot about their temper and personality. The detectives have to witness terrible things and their personlai determines how they ract to those things. Space: this need to feel more intimate, the space is limited to show how the characters experience the same thing and react differently.

1CMed high to Low 35mmnatural, very soft but clarly shaded and darker than the surroundings The crime scene is fully revealed The crime is surrounded by mystery.The way the victim was posed and the surrounding occultist symbols make the image more unsettling. There is something special about the crime that makes it more terrifying than usual. Movement: Slow and precise movements revealing the crime scene. Space: we go from a tight shot from a wider and deeper shot.

1EWide to medeye to low35mmnatural, very soft and diffused (overcast)Cohle puts on latex gloves and walks near the body looking for clues, he finds a pentagram carved to the treeThe crime keeps getting more an more terrifying, Cohle reacts wuickly and is very eager to start finding answers Shows the difference between Hart and Cohle and raises the stakes because the murder is surrounded by mistery.Movement: Cohle moves faster but once he gets closer to the body hi slows down, everything that surrounds the crime scene moves slow. Space: Now cohle lives in deep space because he starts to see the whole picture

1Fmed to CUlow to high85/50mmnatural, very soft but clarly shaded and darker than the surroundings Cohle examines the bodyCohle seems the only one willing to start interacting with the scene Demonstrates Cohle's cold personality and his commitment to the job. Movement: Cohle moves fast as he puts on the gloves but again his movements become very slow and precise once he touches the body. Space: tight shot that creates intimacy between the detective and the victim.

1GCU to Med eye35mmnatural, very soft and diffused (overcast)Cohle starts questioning the deputy The deputy feels the detective is undermining their authority and looking down on them Cohle distances himself from people, he is not very good at interacting with others.space: Cohle lives in a different space, when he is interacting with the crime scene the space is deep and when he interacts with others it turns shallow and flat.

1HCUeye 50mmnatural, very soft and diffused (overcast)The deputy responds to cohle and gives as much information as he can while Cohle seems to only ask more questions without even tryting to be friendly at all.There is some tension between Cohle and the rest of the team as they think cohle is a "rude android" Just like the others, Cohle is only doing his job but his attitude seems bery different and annoying to Hart and the others. space: There's always a line divinding cohle from the rest, in this case the tree divides both men as they speak

1JCUEye35mmnatural, very soft and diffused (overcast)Cohle looks at the crime scene as he tells the deputy that they need to get the state's authorities instead of the County's like Tate suggested. Then Cohle goes back to the crime scene Colhe against everyone else. Hart gets more annoyed The relationship between Cohle and HART is complex and instead of worrying about the other people involved, Cohle only cares about the case. Movement: Shaky camera, faster movements then it slows down and becomes very stable as cohle goes back to the body.

1KWidelow 14/16mmnatural, very soft and diffused (overcast)They discover a skirt hanging from one of the branches, it looks like a bat. The sun hits the tableau and the whoe scene changes because of it. The body takes the form of a religious statue. The killer had some clear intentions when he positioned the body the way he did and the scene seems to be foreshadow more killings.The religious overtones add to the juxtaposition of "good and evil"Movement: still camera, there is a sense of something ominous as the camera stays completely still contrasting with the camera moving in every other shot.

1LMed Eye 24mmnatural, very soft and diffused (overcast)Everyone looks at cohle, Hart let's him take over and he starts giving intructions on what to do Tate gives intruction to follow Cohle's direction Even though they don't like cohle, he is right about what they should do. Space: the characters are still divided by the line of the tree, but once they decide to follow Cohle they move and cross the line.

1M Final shot Wide to med Eye to low 35mmnatural, very soft and diffused (overcast)Hart puts on latex gloves and crouches beside his partnerHart is resignated and decides to join Cohle. The two detectives are very different from each other but there is a moment they need to put all differences asside for the best. Space: Hart enters Colhe space, they both see the bigger picture and live in deep space.
