I am a software engineer with experience in the required stack (JavaScript, Mongoose, and MongoDB). I also have experience in volunteering my technical skills in causes that resonate with me and this is definitely one I'll love to be a part of.8I love and appreciate the Igbo language. Being born and raised in the South Eastern part of Nigeria meant that outside of school, Igbo was my primary language for communication. However, I am now at a point where I am making a conscious effort for my Igbo not to become rusty as I have now relocated to a non-igbo city and I don't get to speak it often. There are also a lot of people out there who are either looking for ways to learn the language or trying to still stay sharp like me. Seeing a project aimed at helping folks like these achieve their goals as well as sustain the Igbo language in general got me really enthusiastic to contribute to make the project a bigger success in the near future, this is why I want to volunteer to work on the project.YesDo you by chance have your meetings in Igbo language? Most of my backend experience is with Java, Spring Boot Framework, and relational databases. I do have previous experience working with Javascript and Typescript for building web apps.

I am familiar with the concepts for MongoDB but I haven't worked with it in a few years so I would definitely need to get up to speed on the landscape for MongoDB and Mongoose.
1I think there's a lack of support for learning Igbo in particular and African languages at large. I see this project as a great effort to bridge that gap and also highlight the richness of Igbo.

I'm not Igbo but I appreciate learning and understanding different cultures. In my view, language is a fundamental way of understanding other cultures and even knowing a few phrases can give you some insight into it.

4/19/2021 19:46:37chidiadi01@gmail.comChidiadi AnyanwuEditor/TranslatorI am a native speaker. My parents come from two different parts with two different dialects, and I know a few more dialects of the language.8To help spread the coverage of Igbo language. The Chinese are coming to our country and building language schools here, the English taught us their language. Language affects your way of thinking. When people colonise you, one of the first things they do is teach you their language. It fosters their authority and control of narratives.

Every country and people seek to propagate themselves and their cultures and values. We should also do the same.
MaybeThis project should also expand to writing books and articles in Igbo, as well as podcasts and YouTube videos. Something like that.

I can give you examples. Deutsche Welle (literally meaning German Wave) is a German media giant. Check out their podcasts nd YouTube channel. They've done a lot of work in helping people like me who are learning their language.

Check out their DW_meet the Germans YouTube channel, their DW_learn German (or DW_lernendeutsch), YouTube channel, their DW_Deutsch Warum Nicht? podcast and many more. And their news in slow German.

Another company has YouTube channels and websites Easy German, Easy French, Easy Spanish, Easy Chinese and a few other languages. They also have podcasts and a few articles or stories about those people om their website to help people read that language.

Check out Slow German too. They do reports on German culture and lifestyle in German language (spoken slower than the average German).

Lastly, German meda giant, Funk has a YouTube channel “Y Kollektion” that does reports or I would say, produces content about the way of life of people (basically).

People can learn our language from the internet, read books in our language, watch videos in our language, learn about our ways of life and all that. That's how the US influenced the world--through Hollywood and their media. There just has to be enough content for every kind of person in the language and it would work out perfectly.

People will begin to see Nigerians as human beings, not scammers.

Just saw you on my TL on Twitter and happy to contribute. 10I have always volunteered things. Time, services etc so I’m quite comfortable in this field. I am also knowledgeable about the language, from its tiniest bits to the semantics of it and semantics - meaning is the last level in the understanding of a language’s structure. The Igbo is an endangered language so if I’m able to contribute to keeping it alive in anyway, or helping people interact with it, then that works for me. MaybeExcited to potentially be a part of this. Also interested in discovering the “why” of this project. Also where is it going? And do you think this helps the language at all? 10y

Software developer (Web)7It’s about time we (Igbo people) start writing things down and telling our own stories. I’ve had ideas on what to contribute but I haven’t been able to kick it off yet. However, one thing I can do is join forces and help out how I can when I see projects already started. I’m also a member of a few clubs on Clubhouse trying to push the Igbo language and culture forward. There are people working on finding a way to update our vocabulary, are you guys in touch with any of them yet?YesGreat job! Igbo ga adi!7y

Volunteering to work on this project matches with my research interest as an Igbo Language enthusiast. Hitherto, the Igbo Language is facing endangerment and needs to be revitalized and preserved so that our Language will never die and serve for posterity. Nkowa Okwu’s light will never go dim instead shine!

I am passionate about indigenous languages and I see this as an opportunity to help in creating reference and learning resources and technological solutions for speakers and learners of Igbo.

Additionally, I believe it would be fun and have a chance to meet a couple of passionate people who are not only driven by money.

I teach Igbo and am founder of 'the Supu Project'. I find that we lack engaging modern resources for supporting learners of Igbo language. I'm very thrilled to have come across this website and the work you do. I would love to be a part of it.
YesHow does 'www.nkowaokwu.com' manage the expansion of Igbo vocabulary. I find that in comparison to 'Yoruba' language for example, Igbo may be more lacking in linguistic expressions. Is this a project that 'Nkowaokwu Igbo' is working on? I will definitely be sharing news of this page on my groups. Jisie nu ike!9failed

I'm 25 years old, and it recently struck me that I'm running out of time to learn the igbo language from the generations before me. Growing up in the US, my parents and grandmothers spoke at home and tried their best to pass on knowledge. I imagine if our community in rural NC was stronger, it wouldn't have been as challenging. But they were largely overwhelmed by the responsibility of surviving while educating my siblings and I within this very capitalist and very euro-centric system. So in the last year, I started a project with my younger brother to formally document the ozara/obe dialect as we self-taught basic Igbo. We had this idea of using technology (I as a UX Researcher, and he as a Software Engineer) to make learning the language more accessible and enjoyable for fellow Nigerian-Americans who shared our struggles - so when I discovered Nkọwa okwu, I got really excited :)
