Regarding Q1: I have been involved in education in Parker County for more than 25 years…I am pleased to report that I have not seen “radical ideologies” in our k-12 classrooms, and appreciate Rep. Olcott’s recent comments that he is confident such things are not going on in Parker County’s schools, either. Regarding Q6: I believe it is appropriate to distribute the expense of certain projects across a broad timeline if a) interest rates are acceptable, and b) the lifespan of the project is expected to be lengthy. As an example, I think it is in the best interest of our citizens that we NOT burden taxpayers with high Interest and Sinking (I&S) taxes in a very short-term, so that a bond for a 50-year school building is entirely funded by a group of people around for the first 15 years of the building’s use. Isn’t it logical that the stakeholders that arrive in years 16-30 also pitch in (fiscally) to support the building? If the population continues to grow, it’s likely the tax base also grew…a tax base that could support another new building IF IT IS NECESSARY to accommodate the new growth. If the state moves to prohibit doing so, I would fear that taxing entities might become too aggressive and “over-build” out of fear that they might need to prepare for very long-term growth that never comes.
