CSB in Europe are mostly based on seed savers´, gardeners´ and farmers´ networks. They maintain and develop agricultural bio-diversity, enhance access to seeds and plants adapted to local conditions, provide training and sensibilisation activities and thereby contribute to sustainable agriculture and food sovereignty. They aim to support networking between CSB in Europe and beyond. He coordinates the Rete Semi Rurali network's experimental activities.
He was Professor of Agricultural Genetics at the Institute of Genetic Improvement, University of Perugia until 1987. From 1980 he conducted research at ICARDA (the International Centre for Agricultural Research in Dry Environments, Aleppo, Syria) until 2006, and continued to serve the Centre as a consultant until 2014. He is currently a freelance consultant. During his career, he has supervised nearly 25 master's and doctoral students, conducted training courses for researchers in China, Australia, South Africa, the Philippines, Yemen, Jordan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, India and Bhutan, and published nearly 280 scientific papers; he has been an invited speaker at nearly 30 international conferences. He is currently involved in projects in Ethiopia, Jordan, India, Iran and Europe. His areas of expertise are genetic improvement, genotype x environment interaction, breeding strategies, drought resistance, participatory and evolutionary breeding, crop adaptation and use of genetic resources.

They want to support artisan agricultural and livestock products and producers produced by small producers with natural, additive-free, chemical fertiliser-free, traditional and local methods and contribute to the sharing of these products with small consumers... Their main goal should be to protect and ensure the free production and circulation of our local food and seeds, which are about to be destroyed by "patent laws" and "certification" methods, and to protect and develop our agricultural biodiversity.

With their Nilüfer Agricultural Developement Cooperative (NILKOOP); the NGO EKODER (Ecologic Life Association) and the Nilüfer Citizens' Council, some Women associations and the Uludag University Agricultural Faculty, they work on different projects in five areas of the food system: governance, production & processing, distribution, consumption, and food waste management. Nilüfer Municipality is one of the 12 municipalities (the only one in Turkey) running a EU project named FUSILLI (Fostering the Urban food System transformation through Innovative Living Labs Implementation) on those topics. On 11 November 2002, with accelerating and reifying the process of acting in mind and to include other concerned people, institutions and bodies, EKODER was established as a seperate organization.
