6	All accidents	This risk assessment will be read and completed in addition to the young persons Indidual Crisis Management Plan and Risk Assessment.
7	Inadequate infection protection	Sickness/Illness	All trips to be risk assessed to ensure they are infection protected compliant. (e.g Covid outbreak) Leaders to carry additonal masks in case they are needed. Leaders to have alcohol sanitizer to be used before leaving site. All pupils to wash hands before refreshments.
8	Inadequate planning and preparation	Accident/injury	Lead Teacher will carry a mobile phone Lead Teacher will have a copy of Emergency Procedures including all emergency contact numbers The first aid kit will be easily accessed by all leaders Leaders and parents/care staff will have prepared a contingency plan in the event of an accident or breakdown (inc. safety of group, and planned means of onward travel or return home) Head teacher will ensure that any additional Specific Visit Risk Assessment has been completed and is complied with during visit with regard to particular individuals/venues/activities if required. All staff will be made aware before taking part in the activity of relevant risk assessments and agreed control -measures/precautions. Written assurances will be obtained from the provider that suitable and sufficient safety management systems (e.g. fire procedures/ Public Liability Insurance) are in place Young people will be fully briefed regarding potential hazards, “no-go areas and prohibited activities”, and safety measures/procedures, including conduct and behaviour required on arrival at the venue. Parents/Carers will supervise their own young people throughout the visit.
9	Exposure to adverse effects of weather	Cold injury, heat injury, over exposure to sun etc.	Lead Teacher will consider possible weather conditions, plan appropriate programmes, and Parents/carers will ensure that young people are aware of appropriate clothing and equipment required (inc. hat, sunscreen etc.). An email will be sent to homes the previous day with details of venue, meeting time, refreshments required etc. Specialist personal protective clothing and equipment will be made available to group members where appropriate Lead Teacher will plan and make provision for young people who may not bring suitable kit, including arranging check-up before departure and/or bringing spares Staff will obtain daily weather forecast and adjust plans accordingly

12	Emergencies	Inadequate procedures delayed help/support deterioration of condition	The school has an emergency plan for dealing with an incident on a educational visit in the The Agricultural and Rural Centre Educational Visits Safety Policy The Lead Teacher will carry a mobile phone The Lead Teacher will carry sufficient cash or cards for pay-phones Lead Teacher will have immediate access to a copy of Emergency Procedures, including all emergency contact numbers. Leader and Head of Education will have instructions regarding what to do in an emergency Leaders will have an appropriate level of first aid training and at least one leader will have a current first aid qualification A complete first aid kit will be checked and taken with the group The first aid kit will be easily accessed by all leaders Contact details of parents and school will be held by Lead Teacher Lead Teacher will brief young people regarding emergency procedures Lead Teacher will prepare a contingency plan in the event of an accident or breakdown (inc. safety of group, and planned means of onward travel or return home)

16	Activities in, on or near water including paddling	Drowning/ hypothermia	All accompanying staff are made aware of the particular and higher risks associated with many water based activities Activities involving water will be carefully pre-planned, and appropriate risk assessments and control measures put in place, including availability of life saving equipment and competent, trained staff. Staff will know the swimming ability and confidence of group members and will plan activities accordingly
17	Harm caused by other people	Assault/Abuse by public Given drugs/Abduction Terrorist attack	Seats for Cinema/ Shows and Theatre will be booked in advance.Seats will also be booked and reserved in advance for Lunch time A staff member or teacher will sit at each end of the young people Young people will not sit next to members of the general public and will be supervised at all times. Young people will be supervisied with the staffing ration set out in their individual risk assessment at all times
18	Risks specific to Visits to Farms	Injuries/illness	Lead teacher will have read, understood and will follow all relevant advice given by the HSE alongside information sheet AIS 23 – Advice to Teachers on Farm Visits. This is available in the school Trips and Visits Folder. The site will be researched before visit. If the farm is regularly open for school visits, their risk assessments and safety management systems for visiting groups are inspected and assessed to be adequate Staffing ratios will be appropriate to the site and group taking into account Young People's risk assessment. All attending teachers and staff are fully aware of their roles and responsibilities and of safety rules and procedures Young people will be briefed before and during visit, especially re. hygiene and where/when eating or chewing are allowed Young people will wear appropriate clothing, including sturdy outdoor shoes or Wellington boots. Cuts, grazes etc. on young peoples’ hands are covered beforehand with waterproof dressing. Houses will be written to proir to the trip with details of acceptable clothing. Eating areas are separate from those where there is any contact with animals There are adequate, clean and well-maintained hand washing facilities on site There is clear information for visitors on the risks and precautions to take All group members listen carefully to and follow the instructions and information given by farm staff
19	Proximity to Water. Lakes, streams, ponds and water features.	Accident or injury drowning	Risk assessment of route, banks, crossings etc. Awareness that water levels change and need to assess conditions before and during activity Other route MUST be taken if route (e.g. bank side path, stepping stones) is unsafe Good supervision of pupils to ensure sensible behaviour.

21	Planned activity IN water (paddling for field studies	Accident or injury, drowing, hyperthermia	Each location must be individually risk assessed by Lead Teacher. Staff members must physically check water depths and rate of flow prior to study activities planned for pupils in the water. Choose sites where: - easy access and exit from water - no significant hazards on banks e.g water flowing onto overhanging trees - no immediate significant downstream hazards, waterfalls etc - pupils can stand easily in water to be entered - pupils can be seen and supervised by staff at all times Do not use obviously contaminated sites. Take sensible hygiene precautions: cover wounds grazes etc, do not drink river water, wash hands before eating, Take advice from Environment Agency if necessary
22	Harm caused by other people	Assault/Abuse by public Given drugs/Abduction Terrorist attack	Young people will be fully supervised according to their individual staffing ratio at all times, including toilet breaks. Pupils will go in single use toilets where possible. At rest times a staff member or teacher will sit at each end of the young people. Young people will not sit next to members of the general public and will be supervised at all times.
23	Lack of knowledge of site	Accident or injury Young people separated from group	Lead Teacher to research the area before the day of the visit. Where possible obtain a map of the area or use Google maps before visit. Leader to ensure that any play equipment is age and ability appropriate. Leader to visually inspect any equipment before use.

25	Young Person absconded or separated from Leader		There will be full supervision during any breaks in journey and getting on and off transport. Lead teacher to follow school protocol for absconding/missing.

36	Inexperienced/ incompetent leadership	Accidents/ Injuries	The Group Leader will ensure that all teachers and staff: - understand their roles and responsibilities - have adequate orienteering skills and/or experience - are experienced and competent at ongoing risk assessment Emergency procedures will be discussed, and contingencies established, to deal with the potential rescue/evacuation of an injured group member. Group leader will carry first aid kits which have been checked and fully stocked

38	Inadequate Route planning	Injury as result of pedestrian collision with vehicle	Prior research of the intended journey will be undertaken by the Lead Teacher to establish hazards and choose appropriate and safe walking route
39			The route will be planned to avoid fast or dangerous junctions or sections of road
40			Leaders will be prepared to alter route or abandon visit if road/weather conditions are considered unsafe (e.g. icy pavements)
41			Young people will be briefed to remain on pavements unless instructed otherwise
42			Young people will be briefed regarding hazards and behaviour required
43			The planned route will cross roads only at designated crossing points or at specified “low risk” locations
44			All journeys, especially road crossings, will be closely supervised by staff
45			Young people will be briefed not to cross roads, unless and until specifically instructed to do so by staff

47	Crossing roads	Injury as result of pedestrian collision with vehicle	Roads will be crossed only at safe locations where visibility is clear and sufficient time is available to cross
48			An experienced staff member will be designated and clearly responsible for overseeing the crossing of roads.
49			Lead Teacher will choose the safest and most appropriate way for the group to cross road
50			An experienced staff member will remain in the road signalling traffic to stop whilst young people are crossing
51	Walking beside roads	Injury as result of pedestrian collision with vehicle	One staff member will be at the front of the group, one at the back, with the others positioning themselves alongside the group between the young people and the road itself
52			The group will be instructed to stay together as one group, on one side of the road only
53			The group will normally walk on the side of the road facing oncoming traffic, but the group leader will choose the safest side according to road conditions, width of verge, and visibility of traffic.
54			Leaders will ensure that group members walk in a single file close to roadside
55			Leaders will be positioned at the front and back of the group
56			If the pavement is wide enough or the road very quiet, some leaders will walk alongside the group, usually on the pavement on the side nearest to the road, but care will be taken.
57			Particular care will be taken around corners, when oncoming traffic may not be visible
58			If visibility is poor, leaders at the front and rear of the group will be positioned at an appropriate distance ahead and behind the group to give prior warning to oncoming vehicles
59			Leaders will warn group members of oncoming traffic and give instructions to the group to move onto the verge if appropriate
60	Private Hire Vehicles	Accident or injury	The Lead Teacher will check and obtain prior written assurance from the provider that the driver and car are appropriately insured and that they have suitable vehicle breakdown/roadside assistance cover The Lead Teacher will brief the driver and ensure that the journey is planned carefully beforehand to ensure that sufficient time is given (allowing for comfort stops, and possible delays) to ensure that there is no pressure to rush Sufficient account will be taken of weather forecasts, traffic reports, and intended rest stops in planning the journey The route will be planned to avoid high risk situations – e.g. narrow/dangerous roads, steep gradients The journey will be postponed or cancelled if weather or traffic conditions are considered too hazardous
61	Company Pool Cars	All accidents/ emergencies	Vehicles will only be driven by The Agricultural and Rural Centre CIC. All staff have their private insurance and MOT checked annually by Human Resources. Human Resources check that; - the car is appropriately insured including business use - the insurance company has been informed of and agreed to intended use - their car has a current MOT certificate The Lead Teacher will ensure that the journey is planned carefully beforehand to ensure that sufficient time is given (allowing for comfort stops, and possible delays) to ensure that there is no pressure to rush The Lead Teacher will note the weather forecasts and traffic reports prior to the journey. The journey will be postponed or cancelled if weather or traffic conditions are considered too hazardous The route will be planned to avoid high risk situations – e.g. avoid rush hours, narrow/dangerous roads, steep gradients The Lead Teacher will have a contingency plan in the event of a vehicle breakdown, accident, or incident including a plan for onward travel. The Lead Teacher will take a fully charged mobile phone and will carry a list of emergency contact details
