I checked out the Zero Waste dishes from F3 and introduced them to the Quilt Guild during our annual summer potluck. After a small presentation and dinner, I got several questions and did a short writeup for the newsletter so that others had the Zero Waste info handy.
I was surprised the ladies were open to this idea. They had questions about the cleanliness of the dishes but the dinnerware passed inspection!

NRTA Annual Meeting: How To Be A Local Recycler
8/18/2017404015.5Curbside recyclingPresentation
I made a power point, we played the RecycleByCity game and I made a Virtual Tour of the MRF: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbnO-NVGVmU

I am curious if others would be interested in using the video. I paused the video and talked about each part so it is not a stand alone product. I would be willing to make additional edits for various purposes if it could be useful.
It was well received. They liked the video and I think it helped explain why we recycle the materials we do in Flagstaff. I wish I had more time on the RecycleByCity site. Otherwise, good questions and participation.

It is challenging to make eye contact and encourage folks to come over to the booth, but ultimately it really increases participation. You can't just sit there and expect people to come over.

Also, I have no idea how many people were at the fair Friday afternoon. I guessed 500 out of thin air.

Flagstaff Green Minute: NAU Sustainable Citizen Program
9/4/201711003500014OtherTable
I created a short video about NAU's new Sustainable Citizen Program and posted to social media (1100 views, 3500 reached). I am also working with Ellen Vaughan to promote it among students, classes, clubs and events on campus.
I need to start trying to incorporate humor in these FGM :) I think they will be shared more on social media.

Dylan - where am I on hours? Do 'prep' hours count towards the 30 required volunteer hours? I wasn't sure how to report my time on this.

I was at Guadalupe Park on Clay. This was a tough location because of the ball field - all of the parking was full due to Little League games, so I think it would have been difficult for people to get in to drop off their stuff. I had a couple of people who were interested in bringing donation stuff (one person did), but they were not members of the target audience (students). I haven't come up with better ideas, yet, but will keep thinking on how to better reach the students.

Sewing materials, all of it inherited from my relatives
The fix it clinic was a fun event! My husband participated as well. I networked with the other sewers, which I think will lead us to doing other similar activities together. I'm getting positive feedback on my recycle crafting (as in interest), so please let me know if there are places to host a table or talk about them.

Since completing The Master Recycling class, I incorporated sustainability in the school's Spring Garden Club, I started a Recycling Rep rotation allowing 4th and 5th grade to take the lead with the school's recycling system, I'm also implementing a Sustainability Club that will empower students with knowledge that they can pass on to their classmates and family.

Fun, I enjoyed talking to and teaching my student. Very much appreciated the dinner provided. The low attendance was probably due to the lack of parking and being scheduled so close to the city of Flagstaff fixit clinic.

Beth VerstraeteDrop off day4/28/201810030020Collection eventOther
Traffic flow wasn’t handled very well. Other volunteers would cause traffic backups because they would talk to the people coming to the event too close to the entrance rather than encouraging them to move forward. Also organizers of the event caused more issues by encouraging drivers to pass others to move ahead in line even if the line was very busy. This was also dangerous for volunteers assisting people in the drive.

Great outreach to coincide with city’s change in policy on plastic recycling. The Farmer’s Market is flooded with vendor usage of styrofoam & single use plastics, I feel like it’s crucial to provide education to both patrons & vendors about how to change habits regarding throw away containers. There has got to be a way to encourage vendors to offer a discount to those bringing reusable plates, cups & utensils for food, drink & produce.

Off location (off to the side of the main pedestrian routes). Would have been better closer to front gate(s). Had stickers for kids, not much for teens and adults. Got a positive response from community. Owner of fratelli's suggested a small amount of waste management revenue go to styrofoam, because it will be hard to convince many businesses and packers to give it up for other materials.
