No2Other ReasonNoA separate group for beginners/ short easy rides• 2 bike riderSometimes. As a non driver the lack of advanced notice and the large area for potential start points is an issue. If I have to travel a good distance to get to a start point, I don’t want a short ride.No4, 1, 2, 3I would like to find consistency and progression in my cycling No preference. It’s a cycle club and therefore cycling comes first, but with a social element No• OtherMaybePrevious clubs have not had subs and have ordered club wear on an annual basis based upon requests for clothing. I do think ride leaders should be wearing club tops. Stickers & bidons work well as well.

NoAbout once per week, not a member before the pandemic• 2 bike rider, • Mountain bike riderYesNo4, 3,1No• OtherMaybeNo

NoAim at once a week (Wednesdays) but away sometimes or car not availableOther ReasonIce was my reason. I think 'lost the habit' main problemClearer difference between 3 & 2 bike rides. Nothing seems short and accessible to new riders• 3 bike rider, • Mountain bike rider, • Coffee stop rideryesNo4 - 3 --1. Makes me ride further & good companynot for me No• OtherNoI wear a waterproof jacket most of the year, So not reason to wear a club vest

NoYesPersonally I certainly have become more aware of crowded public areas and would choose the situation at coffee stopsConcentrate on shorter organised rides rather than coffee stop meets?• 3 bike rider, • 2 bike rider, • Mountain bike rider, • Coffee stop riderYesYesSorry - don't think this is a very helpful question"All of the above" All are appropriate in given situations and I think we all enjoy riding with friends who have similar fitness interests/enthusiasms and ability but cycling solo, and passing on our enthusiasm and knowledge to others on group rides must also be high on the list.I think we have it about right - the club is after all a cycling club primarily and although social events are great for getting to know each other and enjoying the company of others the prime reason for coming together is to enjoy and share our enthusiasm for all types of cycling. No• OtherMaybeSome sort of part funding might help but in my view the quality of the items is important. What we have at present is not particularly useful in any but summertime. An idea which works in some other clubs is to have a gilet in club colours which can be worn on top of other kit.

NoNone before - or sinceA fewoccasional "taster" rides - advertised by direct email ( and Herald) rather than on the blog. Might bring in new members too?• 2 bike riderI'm not a strong cyclist - but I don't want a cafe stop if I'm out for a rideNo1 2 never done 3 or 4I'm 75 and have never cycled with anyone (except my wife) else since I was a teenager. I think I would like going with a small group (up to 6 say) but I don't know how I would feel in a large groupYes please. No• Cost, • I wouldn’t want to wear team clothingNoNo. I personally don't see the point of team colours on a social ride.
7
NoLess because there have been fewer rides put on the listIt may if they are shielding themselves or a vulnerable personThe only possible way you could catch or pass on Covid is at the coffee stops. Therefore try to plan stops stops with outdoor seating if possible.• 3 bike rider, • 2 bike rider, • Mountain bike rider, • Coffee stop riderYes the club does cater for all, but unfortunately there are not enough leaders putting on rides and we need more people to become leaders Paraphrasing JFK. Ask not what your club can do for you, but what you can do for your club.Yes2 I have to put that first, 4,3,1You are kidding NigelPicnics are good. I don't see why 2 and 3 bike rides can't be coordinated more so that they meet up for lunch. This would help the club to be sociable. Quarterly charity lunch.?No• AvailabilityYesJust buy them!

NoOnly joined recentlyNo • 3 bike rider, • 2 bike riderYes, admirably!Yes4,3,2,1Great fun and mutual supportMaybeNo

NoI do not go on club runs often because I live on the edge of the club catchment area. I would need to use my car to get to most starting starting points. That is something I am resistant to doing unless I have another reason for using the car (ie my wife going off walking)Other ReasonN/ADifficult to answer this question. As well as organising rides from different locations as at present, may I suggest organising shortish rides each week from just one area. Penrith seems to be the obvious location. Members currently who prefer the shorter rides are mostly from the Penrith area and maybe would be more inclined to come out regularly if rides were held each week locally.

For me, I’m not as fit as I was. I enjoy long rides (sometimes VERY long rides) but at a slower pace. The 3 bike rides are sometimes too fast for comfort. Some 2 bike rides are also quick. One of the factors I use to decide if I am going to join a ride is who the ride leader is? It is important to get more members to lead rides and to introduce a greater variation of routes and pace.
• 3 bike rider, • 2 bike rider, • Coffee stop riderSee answer 2No.preference in order (1). (4). (3).I can ride where I want, ride at my own pace and change the route on a whim. The club occasionally organised an evening meet up in a pub - usually the pub in Wreay. I could be persuaded to come down from Gretna to a social in N. Cumbria. No• OtherYesIt may be worth the club making a bulk buy but members pay for their club clothing. The clothing should be good quality .
10
NoYesDon’t think soNo I’m not concerned at all• 2 bike rider, • Mountain bike rider, • Coffee stop riderYesNo4 1Enjoy the social interaction as I ride on my own a lotNo• OtherYesDon’t mind paying

Noless at first, now much the sameI’m still afraid of catching CovidSome, for sureWe're doing as well as can be expected and members are becoming more confident.• 3 bike rider, • 2 bike rider, • Mountain bike rider, • Coffee stop rideryesYes4, 2, 1, social aspectpicnics have been good, charity lunches and challenge rides. No• I wouldn’t want to wear team clothingNono

NoNot as much but not because of the pandemic.I get the impression that most people have taken a lead from the Government and regard the pandemic as over. Maybe cyclists, and our Club in particular are, quite sensibly, being more cautious. I also suspect that many habits have been broken and it will take time to return to previous behaviour patterns. I already feel safe with the club. Rides can always be completed without going indoors if people prefer not to risk it.• 3 bike riderYes. There is a good group of riders at all times. NoAll equal. I like the variety. There are advantages in all the above situations. I would not restrict myself to any one of them. Probably not a priority at the moment. The rides themselves are good social events. No• OtherMaybeNo. I don't really have a strong view on this.
13
NoI haven't, but not because of Covid Other ReasonTo a lesser degree Smaller group sizes.• 3 bike riderI think all levels are catered for Yes2, 3, 4, 1Flexibility. Changes can be made due to weather and other commitments. I don't now ride in bad weather. NoNo• I wouldn’t want to wear team clothingNoNo
14
NoN/AI’ve lost the habit, Other ReasonI don't know about other members. I am less attracted to group riding generally, not just EVPutting 'coffee stop' rides on the blog a day or two before when the weather's looking good. Gives an opportunity for informal groups or solo riders to get out, rather than a pre set date with a gamble on the weather, perhaps? Maybe we should just do this in South Lakes sometimes if that would be ok? • 3 bike rider, • 2 bike rider, • Coffee stop riderI'm not keen on group riding now (matching pace to other riders/feeling safe with regard to traffic and other cyclists in the group) -I'm finding it more enjoyable to be riding just in a 2 or small group of 4. The coffee stop rides could give great appeal to me if they were in South Lakes in the summer, but i do realise the Group is Eden Valley based. Also I am mainly back in Cumbria in the summer months only. I think EV coffee stop rides are a great option for people who want to ride alone or in small informal groups - it's my problem that i don't live near enough to one of the coffee stops❗Yes2, 3, 4, 1Riding at our own pace, flexible choices about route, stops etc No, I'd be happy with social meets for coffee, lunches etc on ridesNo• I wouldn’t want to wear team clothingNoNo
15
NoYes• 3 bike rider, • 2 bike rider, • Mountain bike riderYesYes4,2,1Enjoy the social aspectNo• I wouldn’t want to wear team clothingNoNo

NoI try to get to most published rides. As much as before pandemic (or more). No• 3 bike rider, • 2 bike riderYesYes4 - 1 - 3 Variety of rides offered & riding/socialising with others with same interest. No preference either way. Apart from riding & coffee stops with the group other events don't appeal to me. Though the club ' pic nic' was interesting. No• AvailabilityYesNo I am willing to buy.
17
NoMost days of the week but half a day rather than all dayI’m still afraid of catching Covid, I don’t wish to be indoors with other people e.g.cafe stopsProbablyNo . Wait for the pandemic to subside• 2 bike rider, • Coffee stop riderYesYesWith Wife first, on my own, group max 4 but 6 at a pinchIt is easy to adjust speed route and distanceNot reallyNo• OtherNoNo

NoYes probably more since pandemic started than before. NoRestrict number of people riding in the group • 3 bike rider, • 2 bike riderYesYes3Prefer company. No I think what is organised is fine. No• I wouldn’t want to wear team clothingMaybeI think if members want to buy club clothing they should fund it themselves
20
NoNot as much, but not because of the pandemicOther ReasonMaybe • 2 bike rider, • Mountain bike rider, • Coffee stop riderYesOn my ownE bikes have definitely changed the dynamics of the group. Sorry! No• AvailabilityYes
21
About half as much as before the pandemicI’ve lost the habit, Other Reason• Coffee stop riderYesYes3 4 1I prefer to cycle with a very small number of people and I live a long way from other cyclists in the clubI liked the picnic at Long Meg and Rosie’s charity event as well as Christmas social stops at cyclists homes No• I wouldn’t want to wear team clothing, • OtherNoNo
22
NoOther ReasonI think you’ve done all you can. It may take some longer to feel at ease mixing with others, although those who are against the vaccine ( if any) may find it hard. • 2 bike rider, • Coffee stop riderYesNo4,2,3,1It’s a social occasion as well as getting out for some exercise. Meeting up for rides are social occasions in themselves so the Xmas Lunch is enough as an extra. No• I wouldn’t want to wear team clothingNoNo, I prefer to wear my own clothing.
23
NoHad only done a couple of guest rides before the pandemic was about to join when COVID stopped rides. Have done a couple of rides this summer but that’s all.Other ReasonI feel safe on rides.• 2 bike rider, • Coffee stop riderYesYes4&3 equally, 2,1I like chatting to people on rides.Cycling weekends might be good. No• AvailabilityMaybeI don’t think that would be a good use of club funds.
24
YesSo far I have joined 3 rides the picnic and 5 coffee stopsI’m still afraid of catching CovidI am still cautious about covid and I guess others are, but hopefully this will get better after this winter. Not really, I think we just need to keep taking sensible precautions particularly indoors.• Mountain bike rider, • Coffee stop riderSo far the number of MTB rides seem to have been limitedYes3 - 4 - 2 -1I am relatively new to group or club riding but so far it has been good. Also as I am not familiar with the area cycling with the club taps into local knowledge. To early to tellNo• OtherMaybeNo
25
YesVirtually ceased riding with club Infrequent meets at Cafe stops onlyI’m still afraid of catching Covid, I don’t like mixing with groups any more, I’ve lost the habitThe fears above may inhibit other members & potential new members.• 2 bike rider, • Coffee stop riderGenerally YesNo1, 3, 4, 2 is Not ApplicableGot used to riding alone and difficult ride safely with others 2 annual gatherings ( AGM and Christmas Lunch ) are OK, but don't want any more. Post Easter or other cycling holidays / breaks are OK. Group is primarily a cycling club. No• Cost, • I wouldn’t want to wear team clothingNoNot keen to wear club clothing
26
YesNot as much I’ve lost the habitYesSafety is ok
Some building up programme to assist with becoming a 3 bike rider
• 3 bike rider, • 2 bike rider, • Mountain bike rider, • Coffee stop riderAlmost

My suggestion is for a building up programme rather than going on a 3 bike ride to find there is a lot of hill climbing
Yes3 4 2 1I like being in any group to be honest, fun, banter, encouragement, socialYesYes• AvailabilityYesI’d be happy to purchase it
27
YesFar less - occasional coffee stops but only a handful of 'proper' rides.I’ve lost the habit, Other ReasonProbably not - plus my main interest is Fell walkingI don't have issues with covid now jabbed. Think committee handled it very well.• 2 bike rider, • Mountain bike rider, • Coffee stop riderJust about yes but I hover between higher 2 bike and lower 3 bike so limited. More so I am reluctant to drive over about 15 miles to access rides. Coffee stops appeal as only use half a day for say 30 miles rather than a full one with long stops - against that only see folks at the stop.No4,1,3,2Easier to chat to known people - plus knowing the leaders, can guess how 'intense' the ride will be.Yes, we used to have more socials - eg slide shows, entertainment evenings etcYesMaybeNearly everybody would take opportunity of freebies and so probably wear them!
28
YesNoOther ReasonSomeNo• Coffee stop riderYesYes2,1,3&4 tiedControl over where to ride, deviate or stop if I wish to.A summer social evening or a cycling related speaker. Cycle Carlisle got Josie Dew to give a talk which was successful and also got us new members. No• I wouldn’t want to wear team clothingNoNothing would induce me to wear a club top( not quite true as I wore one when we hosted the Birthday Rides and I was an official)
29
YesOnce, not nearly as much.I’m still afraid of catching Covid, I don’t like mixing with groups any more, I don’t wish to be indoors with other people e.g.cafe stops, I’ve lost the habitNoNo, COVID is not the clubs fault.• 2 bike riderYes Yes1. Cycling with my partner,
2. Cycling with club
3. Cycling in groups
4, then 2, then 3 then 1
We can go straight out of the front door.NoNo• I wouldn’t want to wear team clothingNoNo
30
YesIt has taken time to want to cycle with others again, but I will be out again once I am ableI’ve lost the habitMy guess is that they may be affected by all of the above. It takes a bit of an effort to get going againKeep reminding us that the club is there and is functioning and eventually those that are able to will return• 2 bike rider, • Coffee stop riderYes. There has always been a tension between the fast and the slow riders which we have addressed by our 3/2 bike categories. The new but similar tension is between the assisted bikes and the rest. The only way to resolve this is by going out together, teaching each other what works and what doesn't and remembering the club rule that the speed of any ride is the speed of the slowest. Oh, and to remember that our club is 'inclusive'.Yes4, then 2, then 3 then 1I get a buzz out of cycling with other people and providing other people with a reason to get out and cycle.Yes, but evenings are difficult because our membership is quite widely spread and entertainment which suits one person may not suit another. I am lucky enough to know most of the people in the club. I think that matters. Maybe we should arrange one ride a month, say, around a coffee stop - a central one, perhaps Pot Place on a Wednesday, might be best, or Up Front who can be much more welcoming. That way, instead of focusing on a small group of 'friends' we would all be better integrated into the wider club community. YesMaybeI'm usually wearing a waterproof so no-one knows what's on underneath!
31
YesInitially went on and lead a few rides but felt the pace was irratic with people racing ahead even when leading the ride. No longer enjoyed the rides.I’ve lost the habit, Other ReasonProbably not if they are looking for new activities and friends. I think the club is passionate and caring but the pace might be off putting unless they are on an electric bike. • 2 bike rider, • Coffee stop riderI think being outnumbered by electric bikes is off putting. The rides I was on over half were electric bikes and on a hilly ride where they speed up hills like it was flat ruins ride enjoyment and chat.Yes3,1,2,4Got used to riding with a friend and we are very flexible in days we go,where and weather. No thanks No• I wouldn’t want to wear team clothingNoNo
32
Yes1 rideI’ve lost the habit, Other ReasonProbably for existing members - the questionnaire should answer that.• 3 bike rider, • Coffee stop riderI cannot join any rides on Sundays or Fridays because of commitments, which is my choice. Wednesdays can get busy with meeting people, so I seldom get a chance to get out for a ride with the club.Yes3, 1, 4I cycle with a friend from my village.I have no great interest in social events at present. Perhaps next year when the Covid threat is less I might be interested. No• I wouldn’t want to wear team clothingMaybeNo
33
YesNoI don’t like mixing with groups any more, I’ve lost the habitDefinitely 11s coffee stop meet ups• 2 bike rider, • Coffee stop riderNo. It’s lost it’s camaraderie for meYes2 ; 1; 3; 4Convenience & knows eachothers abilities, strengths & weaknessesYes• OtherMaybeNo
34
YesHaven’t been out at allI’ve lost the habitPossiblyNot really; I don’t think you can require vaccinations• Coffee stop riderYesNo2, 1, 4, 3I actually enjoy being with my partnerNot for meNo• OtherNoNo, simply because I have plenty of cycling gear
