Well, I'm interested in biology, and I think the wiki can help educate the public, but the main reasons for my interest are that writing for the wiki gives me experience with writing scientific articles, as well as credentials to mention when applying for any future jobs or volunteer positions; and that it increases my chances of meeting other Effective Altruists, with whom I could one day collaborate on projects, professional or otherwise.

To support research into longevity. Our technology is getting to a stage where we can maybe slow/reverse aging and prevent much of human suffering.
I have one: how to slow/reverse human aging as fast as possible 🙂
Hopefully it helps to distribute knowledge about the latest longevity research. There is still not much about this on Wikipedia so Longevity Wiki might be able to fill this gap. It could help both scientists and lay people alike. Hopefully it motivates people to do more research into anti-aging and speed up the results. I could imagine when longevity research becomes more mainstream, much of Longevity Wiki's content might be integrated into Wikipedia in the future.

Because I strongly believe in the mission of democratizing scientific research. There is virtually no limit to what science can discover. There is however, a limit to what it can achieve. That limit is based on whether that knowledge stays siloed in academic ivory towers and labs, or whether it spreads and becomes common knowledge. As a non-scientist I won't be making groundbreaking discoveries, but it would be an honor to help turn those discoveries into knowledge shared and used by all.

I think the topic of Longevity is really interesting since it's so intricate and complex with the many factors that affect it and the knock on effect is has on society as a whole! There are so many questions and routes to explore within the topic! 1. What do we know about what people want? Sure, we all say we "want to live longer" but we mean that with a lot of caveats. If we could live forever, would we want to? How do people at different ages think about this question and does it vary by age?

It'd be awesome if it became a commonplace household reference -- something that most middle school or high school students would read as part of one of their classes. My top interest is in the commitment to open-access scientific information. Science and research are so frequently kept behind paywalls, which means the general public has quite limited access to the information except through popular scientific writing. And as many scientists bemoan, pop sci often communicates its findings, well, poorly (and with bias). I am very interested in your commitment to bridging this knowledge gap in this really interesting area of research, and I'd love to be a part of the team supporting this access to information to everyone.

I am also interested in the field and research itself, the actually longevity focus. My interest in this research is less in the longevity itself (sorry!) and more in the possible reclaiming of quality of life. I learned relatively recently that while our average lifespan in developed countries has increased, the number of years of quality living has decreased - the diseases of aging have actually taken up some of our previously healthily lived years. You have a diagram in your article "Anti-Aging: State of the Art" that incapsulates my interest quite well, which compares the changes in duration of subclinical aging and age-related diseases when medical intervention and anti-aging intervention are applied. The idea that suffering from diseases like type 2 diabetes and cancer could be alleviated not through direct research into these fields but research into longevity/aging is compelling, and a project that seeks to expand access to information on this field is one I want to support.
I am going to list three questions that can be answered but reveal my current information gaps:
1. I am still a bit confused on the definition of a disease of aging, particularly as it applies to COVID-19 (a viral infection). Is the idea that a disease of aging encapsulates opportunistic killers, where the opportunity is created by aging?
2. Is this a field with a core group of researchers, or is the information you are accumulating significantly dispersed throughout multiple fields/subfields?
3. What biological differences have been found in animals that exhibit negligible senescence as compared to animals like humans that follow age-mortality curves? What are the eventual causes of deaths if not aging/diseases of aging? What is the biological mechanism/differences between negligibly senescent vertebrates and plants that maintain a non-aging root system but aging trees from the root system (or the other example of bacteria where the colony is immortal but the cells die easily)?
An easy-to-navigate, peer-checked, up-to-date, encyclopedia comprised of neutral (uninterpreted/evaluated) information derived from high-quality (ideally peer-reviewed) sources written in a manner that is straight-forward, easy to understand/digest (to the target audience), and impeccably documented to the original sources. My vision would also include a caveat of no excessive reliance on a single research group/source, if at all possible in this field.

As I understand it, the wiki is supposed to be written for people who are not specialists or do not know much about biology. I think that's noble, and I think that helps to bring the topic closer to people who are just starting to deal with it. The ultimate vision for me, however, would be for the wiki to become relevant to the scientific community as well. I have often imagined that the scientific community on aging could work together on a wiki. The goal here would not be for scientists to publish their results in some journal, but for scientists to integrate their results into a larger whole. One could conveniently access the current state of knowledge via the wiki and would not have to research many papers. If someone wants to know more details, he/she can simply look up the cited paper. Basically, it would be about working on a collective wiki article instead of (or in addition to) a collection of individual papers.
