Climate Headlines in the last 12 months

This document will help us organize and choose the headlines that our signs will display in the Climate Headlines action(s) during the Global Climate Strike week, Sept. 20-27. We plan to deploy ourselves in a forest formation on a busy pedestrians sidewalk that people going about their business will have to traverse their way through. All three categories--crisis, solutions, book recommendation--are listed below in separate tabs. Please choose from among the headlines that are still available, or if you like, add your own without repeating any that are already in the list. We’d like each sign to be adding diversity to the headlines forest.

Click on each tab below to enter and/or claim your headlines. Claim two categories of headlines—crisis and hope (or book title)--for yourself in the indicated field. Once they are claimed, these headlines will only be on your sign. Please also put your email address and sign up date in the indicated fields on both the Crisis and the Hope tabs so that you will be included in future planning messages. The deadline for getting your headlines printed before our sign making party on Sept 17 has passed. There's still time to hand print your own headlines. However if that is an obtacle to participating, please write in the notes section that you'd like to pay $4 to have me print your headlines. I can only do that if you get your headlines entered into the document by this Friday, Sept 20. You would have to be able to meet me to pick up your printed headlines on Monday afternoon in Santa Cruz. If you hand letter your sign, please use black lettering on white paper, like an actual headline would appear, with the date and the name of the publication at the bottom.

These will be 2 sided signs. The recommended size is 18" x 24". I have a very few extra poster boards that cost $2. If you want one, tell me right away! I recommend a paint stick to use as a handle that can be glued onto your poster. I still have quite a few and will be happy to supply them until I run out. They are free at Home Depot. Get the 5 gallon size.

The notes field in each of the tabs below is there to tell you the status of that headline and for you to indicate anything that it would help us know in organizing. We still need a few people at each action to hand out quarter sheets instead of standing with a sign. If you would rather hand out flyers let me know that in the notes and put n/a in the headlines fields.

Our actions will happen on a busy block of Pacific Ave on Tuesday, September 24 from noon to 1:30 and on Thursday on Cooper St. (between Front and Pacific) at 5-6:30 pm. If you can only participate once, that’s fine, just indicate which dates you're participating in the Action Date field. Be sure to include your email address, phone number, and sign up date in the appropriate fields. All further communications about our action will be based on your having filled out these fields.

I recommend you check out an extensive resource for climate news that is especially well curated by a Santa Cruz local at http://hotair.magiamma.com/

Invite friends to join you in this action. Please pass this invitation onto them. Let's be a massive forest. Now for clicking on the tabs below. Remember you need to fill two sides of your sign. One side will be about the climate crisis. You choose for the other side a climate hope headline (Tab 3) or a book recommendation (Tab 4). If you can't see all the tabs, don't forget to use the scroll bar at the bottom.
