Mathematics Grade 7Year LongMathematics Grade 7 builds a strong foundation of mathematical understanding to support students as they start to learn about more abstract mathematical concepts. Students build a strong foundational understanding of rational numbers in computation and number sense, connect ratios to proportional relationships and reasoning which serves as their introduction to algebra, extend their understanding of geometry, statistics, and get an introduction to probability. As in all mathematics courses, the mathematical process standards are emphasized to help students reason, apply and connect the mathematical content they are learning. ** Honor level classes are offered by recommendation only.
5
Accelerated Math Grade 7
Year LongAccelerated Math builds a strong foundation of mathematical understanding to support students as they start to learn about more abstract mathematical concepts and move into Algebra in 8th grade. Students build a strong foundational understanding of rational numbers in computation and number sense, connect ratios to proportional relationships and reasoning, bridge proportional reasoning to lines and linear functions, develop an understanding of irrational numbers, and extend their understanding of geometry, statistics and probability. As in all mathematics courses, the mathematical process standards are emphasized to help students reason, apply, and connect the mathematical content they are learning.
6
AlgebraYear LongStudents can earn two high school credits for successfully completing this course. Algebra I provides a formal development of the algebraic skills and concepts necessary for students who will take other advanced college-preparatory courses. In particular, the instructional program in this course provides for the use of algebraic skills in a wide range of problem-solving situations. The concepts of function is emphasized throughout the course. Topics include: 1. exponents and exponnetial funtions 2. polynomials and factoring 3. quadratic equations and functions 4. radical expressions and equations.
7
Science Grade 7Year LongStudents in seventh grade science will study three main themes in science: the scientific method, physical science, and Earth science. The scientific method unit will lay the foundation for every experiment the students complete. It will help students develop the critical thinking skills necessary to organize, analyze, and create their own experiments. Earth science will give students insight into the Earth's structure, explain how plate tectonics has changed the Earth's surface, and how the movement of rocks aids in the process. Finally, physical science will focus on the law of conservation of energy, Newton’s laws of motion, and how humans impact the environment.
8
Honors Science Grade 7Year Long Based on test scores in elementary school, there will be some students selected for Honors 7th grade science. Those students will master both 7th and 8th grade standards in a single year. Then, they will enroll in Biology, a credit-bearing high school course as 8th graders. They will explore 5 themes in science: the scientific method, physical science, Earth science, chemistry, and life science. The chemistry unit will focus on atomic structure, the Periodic Table of Elements, the law of conservation of mass, physical changes and chemical changes. Life science will focus on cell structure, mitosis and meiosis, classification of living organisms, evolution, and heredity.
