Getting Started

Make a copy of this tool to be able to use it. Select a job with the tabs below (or above on mobile), then fill in each gear and materia slot as desired. Gear and materia options populate dynamically based on selected filter criteria for each job, and expected dummy DPS is displayed for each set.

Gear and materia selections may be copied between gear sets by PASTING VALUES ONLY (default Ctrl+Shift+V) over their respective fields to avoid breaking sheet functions. Ctrl+Z to undo changes.

Use the Resistance Weapons tab to set up custom stats for level 80 relic weapons. These stats will be read by all other gear selectors in other tabs.

Use the Upgrade Evaluator tab to view the requirements for upgrading a selected gear set into another target gear set. This module is read-only: gear changes must be made in the job's gear tab.

Use the Advanced Sim tab for a more rigorous simulation of individual gear sets in a theoretical party environment, given full uptime and a fixed encounter duration (approximately 6.5 minutes). This module only supports level 80 and a limited range of practical GCD tiers.

Use the Level 70 Sync tab to build a gear set for a specific level 70 encounter, using level 70 damage functions and rotations. This module is not compatible with the Advanced Sim.

How it Works

Each job estimates dummy DPS using a simple, sustainable rotation loop (~1 minute for Paladin and ~3 minutes for Gunbreaker) or a proportional model (Warrior and Dark Knight). These loops are ideally representative of each job over an infinite duration, which negates the effects of random damage variance, opener burst, finite downtime, and kill time.

Dummy simulations should NOT be used to directly compare sets with different GCD tiers; many factors are involved in deciding the actual performance of a gear set that cannot be simulated in a vacuum, such as encounter mechanic alignment and specific potency gains / losses in each phase.

Advanced Sim computations use unique action timelines tailored to each GCD tier, with each rotation playing into "standard" party buff timings for 6:45 (PLD), 6:40 (WAR / GNB), or 6:35 (DRK) and ending after their respective final bursts. This simulation is not representative of all situations, but provides a better estimation of a gear set's performance in an optimal environment.

Note that all damage evaluations displayed by this tool are averages. Random damage variance is a complex problem that cannot be meaningfully resolved in all contexts by any other single value.

For instance, non-Warrior gear sets with Direct Hit Rate melds have higher average DPS and higher variance when compared to sets with Determination melds, but lower theoretical maximum DPS over an extremely large number of pulls. Since the probability of Determination ever realistically winning is almost zero, best-in-slot generally favours the higher expected performance of Direct Hit Rate.

Gear set DPS comparisons within single points of DPS should not be considered reliable due to the accuracy limitations of known formulas. Additionally, certain DoT and oGCD usage shortcuts employed by the simulation models (particularly the infinite dummy models) introduce minor rounding errors in order to improve sheet performance.

Practical comparisons should also NOT be made between sets with different GCD tiers using these models, as stated above, due to the lack of important encounter-specific context required to evaluate GCD tiers in a real setting.
