Start Early, create a team environment that keeps the students coming back in the evenings to prepare. I'm still trying to reach this goal, but I think it's key.
Students in marketing class, Students in business clases, Students who have an interest in marketing and business
Word of mouth, announcements at the beginning of the year, attending the school course fair and activity fair
Nothing organized as of now; mostly just continue to connect on social media---twitter and linkedin
We have a business advisory board that we work with to add members and work with them on competition preparation and other activities we do throughout the year
We host a haunted house annually for the local elementary school children with FBLA (who works on carnival games and the costume parade); we also have recently consistently done a Toys for Tots drive and have done food drives in the past
Apple Harvest Parade float, Red Ribbon Rally appearance, various local events that may vary year to year
Dress for Success day, DECA t-shirt day, Cookies for Counselors, Diamond Scavenger hunts; having the school store is also a form of promo for us
PartyLite Candles, Learn and Earn Project, UConn Basketball Tickets or other local team
Improve speeches, interview questions, DECA role plays connecting to whatever material we are covering, our Marketing 3 classes work on DECA projects for the first half of the year including Business Operations Research events, Learn and Earn, Entrepreneurship Promotion, etc
Definitely hold a mock event with local business people and/or teachers. The students report back that this is by far the most helpful in preparing them for real competitions and is actually "scarier" than when they have to do it at states (probably because it's their first time and they get it out of their system!)
We have also done MR PHS, Mr and MRS PHS and a fashion show. Rue 21 was very great with signing out clothes for a fashion show. They gave us over 100 items and after the show our damages were only $37.
