Dairy Bowl is a team event that consists of 4 people on a team. There is a state contest with Jr. and Sr. divisions. The top Sr. individuals may compete in the national competition in Louisville, KY.

Dairy Bowl teaches critical thinking skills, the ability to analyze a question quickly and increase overall general knowledge of the dairy industry. Practices typically start in early January and run through the contest in March.

The VA Holstein Assoc. sponsors 2 regional shows in VA and supports youth in the Dairy Jeopardy Contest at the national Holstein Association.

Dairy Judging will run from April through the state contest in July. The top individual Sr’s will have the opportunity to participate in the national contests in Harrisburg, Madison, or Louisville.

Dairy judging involves “placing” 4 animals of a similar age and giving “reasons” why you placed them that way. Dairy judging develops key life skills! The ability make a decision and analyze that decision, public speaking, critical thinking skills, and reasoning skills.

This show is the largest all breed youth dairy show in the United States and is only a few hours north of VA. It is also home to a national showmanship contest and dairy judging and dairy management contests

VA Jr Dairyman Contest:

The state fair hosts the state Jr Dairyman’s Contest. This is a one day event that test’s the student’s knowledge in a variety of dairy areas, including Judging, equipment, dairy products, pedigree’s, and general knowledge.

We typically practice once a week for about 5 weeks prior to the contest in late September and take both Jr. and Sr. Teams.

Dairy Jeopardy is similar to dairy bowl, but it is set up like the game jeopardy with a final wager. This contest is an individual contest.
