Albany Park Com.CenterAntoine, Claire Gilbertson (cgilbertsen@apcc-chgo.org), Rashid Abdullah (rabdullah@apcc-chgo.org)1) Annual Trip to Springfield--need posters and footage for and from this event. They go down to lobby for Adult Education. March or April. They can interview students on Saturday while there---e.g. do mini-interviews about the actual event itself, 2) They have monthly reports where they highlight a person or issue related to it..success stories--could be written and video. They would use that in their reports and ....interview students....how long have you been here, what are you trying to accomplish, have you accomplished that?...send to Clarie and Rashid....something neat and clean and well put together....Keeping up with the stories of the students and re-telling it for the organization, 3) have historically had interns work on adult education--they could work on and help streamline to create marketing products in general...info-postcares are rolled out for each department..make it look professional, streamlined, ..work with their marketing intern...this is during the week...make and create proofs to match their branding. Claire and Rashid will create a template/guide for the type of stories they are looking for to use on their mothly report. Check back with Dr Martin

Asian Human ServicesCindy La, Mandy Bozart1. Mandy is interested in students conducting a survey and gathering data/information on how much homework is assigned to AHS students for homework and how many have access to computers and/or the internet at home. Students might contrast the information gathered with their own use and access of computers. Could LA students then take this data and produce meaningful infographics for AHS for grant use? 2. Can they have AHS students tell their story through word/drawing/video interview and then produce a booklet/yearbook (digitally and/or print)?

Beacon PlaceKatie Lawler, Andrea RamirezVery excited about working with students to create some research that leads to data and then data visualization for the purposes of messaging as well as advocacy at Loyola. They are open to some of the questions and issues you research and look at concerning the community as well as possibly metrics for program improvement. Peggy who is on the Board has a lot of different ideas.

Centro AutonomoGerardo Morante, & Cecilia Maya, 1. We will be having a series of workshops here at Centro Autonomo with a group called Mexicanos Indignados; they focus on bringing awareness to social issues using their artistic engravings called "grabados.". Students can get involved with this. Make a documentary on it?
2. Students can document their experience giving ESL classes and attend our facilitator meetings where we discuss ways to incorporate popular education in class. Talk to Gerardo about this.
3. Collaborate with Centro staff and organize the next fundraising event. We want to put together one for Isabel, all proceeds will go directly to Isa.
4. And we haven't done this before but we are also thinking about the possible ways that Loyola students can help to make sure our community is counted in the upcoming 2020 census possibly by giving presentations, distributing fact sheets, etc.

Emily Oaks Nature CenterLee HansenLee had a lot of great ideas and wants to work with students. The 5 ideas she gave me I have 2 typed up pages on so consult me or your teachers. 1) Helping educate the public on the thinning of trees. They will be clearing out some of the regeneration of new oak trees that has overtaken the natural savannah of EONC. As a staff they will be studying this--what trees to clear, where, when, etc. A big part of this is to disseminate this information to the public someway. Lee is interested in LA students being a part of creating a way to do this. Video?2) Create signage along the BikeTrail where they have a garden they maintain. A lot of people walk or bike by but do not know anything about the gardenbut do not know#3 Memory Box: Video documenting & archinging of volunteers like last year.
#4 Create a humorous video for use at Loyola & the Environmental Green Team of Skokie Park District. Educate on recycling, food waste, etc.
#5 Skokie Spring Greening Event. Gather data on the 900 people who come....why? What draws them? Could they get something out ahead of time prior to event. Event is April 16th

Fr Graf Center/Community CenterMiguel, Carla Gutierrez, Maria Sanchez1) Inspirational Movie for Funders: Carla would like a 3-4 minute video she could use for funders that tells the story of the Community Center. The community center is a welcome center for especially the immigrants in the community. They are a vulnerable population who come in through word of mouth with a lot of fear in the current context. The CC helps calms their fear and offers 6 valuable services to them: 1) ESL, 2) Citizenship, 3) Spanish LIteracy, 4) Legal Services, 5) Referrals and Case Management and 6) Zumba (for the body and spirit). 2) Create a picture/mural that represents the story of the people or the communiity. Steps in this: a) initial drawing. Have Maria give feedback, 2) Pencil sketch ont he wall (can they invovle the community?), 3, Painting day when the mural is painted (can they involve the community?)

Friedman PlaceAlexander Brown, Beth Friedman,Doug & Victor1. Create a documentary/video on the Blindness...difference between those born blind and those that go blind later in life. How adaptive technology is the bridge for those born blind as well as those being blind later in life. How they learn from each other utilizing these new technologies. Story is: How Adaptive Technology is a tool for briding the blind. Begin with a meeting with Beth and/or Doug where you get filled in on this idea and then check in with them as you storyboard it out. They can help set up the interviews and recording, and then you can get feedback on the editing of it. Project manager sets up a meeting in early January with Beth and Doug for a team meeting. 2nd option is to creaet a movie-story out of their weaving project....interview participants, show the tapestries and what they mean. "My Mine's Eyes sees"project...very cool!
14
Madonna MissionTane Beecham, Lynn Gordon1. Create a training video for future student tutors to be used for orientation on: expectations, how the RAZ reading program works, etc. 2. Create surveys that can gather data from the students and their partners on key questions they would like to need data on, 3. Analyze report cards and create data visualization products that they can use for grant writing quantifying their progress in their reading level
15
North Branch RestorationJohn & Jane Balaban, Erika Kojomo (North sites)1) Create a documentary on the story of North Branch, in particular the story of volunteers....why do they volunteer? 2) Could use a video to help communicate and to disseminate on their move from single stewards to a Team approach to management of sites. What is this? What type of people could they use?

North Park Nature CenterBob Porter Maple Syrup Festival; Interview the volunteers on Sunday morning and craft a video to play at Maples Syrup Festival; Why do they volunteer? Check with Bob and their staff on the kinds of questions that might be good. View last year's Emily Oaks video...try to improve onYou cannot do anything without the volunteers. At the Maple Syrup Festival set up a booth where you not only show the movie, but then offer to record participants response to a question ---What draws you to North Park Nature Center; can you tell me a memory of being at North Park Nature Center? This is like a storycorps booth.

Northside HousingJoseph Brown (on-site)1) Joseph is most interested in story/narratives where students interview the men eithter through audio or video. He can help set up a space. You will need to set up the relationships and people with Joseph's assistance. They loved the film from last year and used it on their social media.2) Programming. Last year's ice cream social was good. Jospeh has ideas about a "Speak your truth night" where a topic(s) are shared where both students and men openly share their views on topics of society. Again, Joseph is your key to make this happen
5) If people want to do advocacy Dr Martin can connect them with the Chicago Coalition for the homeless who Northside works with

Nuestro Center, HighwoodFernando Vargas, Liz Chavez1. Work with the 5th graders to create a yearbook of the students involved with NC---it could be digital and print (chek with Fernando). 2.a short video project that would showcase our new reading program would be an impactful way to share our work with internal and external stakeholders.

Our PlaceJamie Weller, Emily Kerzner 1. (for Sophs) Open to a podcast story of Saturday night socials...what happens & the need for these in the community, 2 (Jr/Sr) Possibility of a panel of staff/participant/parent during Symposium week where the broader issues and challenges of Adult with disability independence are discussed (need for employment opportunities and affordable housing) Go to a Saturday social as a cohort before, and then program one. Plan for it and fill out template. Document by making a documentary of that programming event. Create a story out of it. Edited and storyboarded out well, they could use it in funding, & maybe websiteSome of the programming ideas is to create a game-night (price is right!), have a karoake night, Mexican food and event night, etc.

SunriseLiz Tabet, Activities & Volunteer Coord. For the Sociology Students at Sunrise, Liz request's to do oral histories with approved process and families who have chosen to be a part of this to produce oral histories for their families. The residents have rich interesting histories (one won a Pulitzer prize in photography), and to utilize oral history methods, and video or audio tape (podcast) these stories over a session or two, and then gift them to the families. As a group, you could then compile the oral histories to create one project video or podcast if you choose to present at our Symposium. Liz can assist you getting permission from the families and setting up space for this to occur. THe project manager should contact Dr Martin first, and then I can have you get in touch with Liz on this. Here is the link to the Sunrise Informed consent and questions

Talking FarmMatt RyanMatt gave us 8 total ideas. 2 ideas have to do with the TF, 6 with making LA greener. TF ideas: 1) EDIBLE ACRES at the TF. Helping the TF work on the creation of a small plot of land for the creation of new land for growing. THis could involve surveying the site, determinging the soil type, and designing how and where to put raised bed gardens. There could be a second team who learns about Edible Acres (what they are), visits ETHS where there is an edible acre, and draws up a plan as to how we might bring that to LA. 2) Data analyis and Visualization. Matt keeps good track of data on growth and crops but has it all on an excel spread sheet. For 2 kids who are really into data, you could take this data and run it through multiple attractive ways and mediums for visualizing it. Matt could use this in his end of the year report, grant writing, as well as put it on his website.Besides the 2 ideas at the TF (and the corrolary of the Edible Acres idea and bringing it to LA, i.e. PLAN FOR AND PROPOSE AN EDIBLE ACRES AT LA, other ideas (discussed also with Mrs Firenze and Mr Keating), were: 1) Create a campaign to reduce consumption by 10%, 2) Composting Study and Proposal for LA --food waste..(do research, bring in guest speakers, survey students, create a prototype educational experience in the cafeteria ("Come to the table"--how to throw away waste, recycle and compost), video interview students using or not using, 3) A group doing research on water use and retention and studying how it imight be done on LA grounds, 4) Green Roof...research, look at other sites, propose for LA, 5) Cafeteria Group--study and do research on plastic use, compostable and/or recycled products, do data on costs vs savings through recycled/composting, propose changes, 6) Living out a week of food consumption and waste...measuring consumption, waste, etc....video it, make graphics on it, use it as a tool for educating your peers

Well of MercyMary Zein, Sue Cahill (development)Mary will be meeting with staff to get the specific area of research but she is very interested in having students either do some research & gather data and then to visualize it in useful infographs helpful for donors & the wider community. Namely, the fact that WOM houses women and children for as long as 5 years in order to impact comprehensively through community, the transformation in the mothers and their children to help facilitate succesful integration into society. WOM stands in stark contrast to other organizations where the stay may last as few as 45 days. How can you as a group gather relevant data and then create 3-5 infographs that tell that story? This is what she is interested in having you engage with as a group.
3) a Third story could be one of growth happens through falling and persevering. Grace occurs
