Andre KumarMedical EducationI am looking at inequities in evaluations for female and URM residents (are there differrences in narrative portions of evaluations?) This is funded through the GME department.
I also have all of the GME's evaluations across all programs for the past 10 years. There's lots of projects we can do with that data.

Eric StrongSocial MediaStrong Medicine - A YouTube channel dedicated to providing free, on-demand, high quality educational videos to healthcare professionals and those in training from around the world. For the last 10 years, this has been a one person operation, but I would love to have students or residents assist with creating more videos and potentially other formats of content. And I would equally love to help a motivated student or resident start an independent, educational YouTube channel of their own. Strong Medicine does generate a *very* small amount of income, so if someone wanted to work directly on Strong Medicine (rather than creating an independent channel), it would require a discussion with the residency program +/- GME office to ensure that the work conformed to policies regarding housestaff labor and compensation.estrong@stanford.edu

Working on a project to provide learners with real time patient feedback to help improve communication skills. We are hoping to make this feedback more objective by having an independent research assistant or another individual solicit feedback rather than the learners themselves.

Ron LiMachine Learning/AI/EHR Mining1) Improving advance care planning with artificial intelligence We are designing, implementing, and evaluating novel workflows enabled by a machine learning model to improve inpatient advance care planning. Ongoing work includes workflow design, implementation/change management, and evaluation with a prospective study. ronl@stanford.edu

Ron LiMachine Learning/AI/EHR Mining2) Detecting unanticipated clinical decisions downstream of EHR sepsis alerts We are using data mining to detect ordering patterns downstream of sepsis alert firings. Ongoing work includes interpretation of mined ordering patterns, chart review and validation. ronl@stanford.edu

Ron LiMachine Learning/AI/EHR Mining

3) Characterizing ordering patterns after drug allergy alerts for patients with documented beta lactam allergies. We are mining the EHR to understand how drug allergy alerts affect how physicians order antibiotics for patients with documented beta lactam allergies, and how often alternate antibiotics are inappropriately ordered for patients who otherwise could tolerate beta lactams. We are also planning to design and implement and clinical decision support tool to help physicians identify patients with documented allergies who could otherwise tolerate beta lactams.

Jonathan ChenMachine Learning/AI/EHR MiningDeveloping and implementing predictive models for clinical decision support around diagnostic test order utilization. Some for efficiency, such as identifying which repeated tests are unlikely to yield a new abnormal result. Other targeted applications, including predicting blood/urine culture results to guide empiric antibiotic therapy, requires reviewing charts to provide expert clinical labels of whether you assess the patient had a "real" infection that warranted antibiotics or not, then collaborating with computational students/post-docs to train models to learn and inform those processes. jonc101@stanford.edu
