Introduction
10
This is a compilation of election results for Libertarian candidates that includes a lot of detail and analysis. We've included some tables and lists that allow viewers to filter the data right here in this Google Sheet, but have also made the data and this spreadsheet downloadable and shareable to facilitate additional analysis. We welcome feedback and corrections. Email libertarianboosterpac@gmail.com.
11
Most of the Source Data was collected by Arthur DiBianca of Austin, Texas. Wes Benedict provided most of the Google Sheet pivot tables, Top 10 lists, and other analysis.

Overview
17
Source Data sheet
18
Includes election results from 11/2/2010 to 12/14/2024.

6253<-Count of Candidates in this analysis.
20
Some of the columns are self-explanatory. Others are explained below.
21
It's easy to define who a Libertarian candidate is in a partisan race. However defining a candidate as Libertarian in a nonpartisan race can be subjective. For that, we used past practices of the Libertarian Party. For example, current or former dues-paying members of the Libertarian Party or registered Libertarians may be considered Libertarian in nonpartisan races.
22
Category is helpful when selecting similar offices that use different nomenclature. For example, for the lower house of the state legislative body, Texas uses "State Representatives," California use "State Assembly Members" and Virginia uses "State Delegates". The category "state rep" includes all three of those.
23
Type is very important and indicates whether the race was partisan, non-partisan, and many other variations. Column A of the Key sheet shows more detail. Many elections are partisan and have only one winner, like elections for U.S. Representative. But some places have elections where two or more of the highest finishers win seats on a board.
24
If label is "L", then the ballot indicated the candidate was on the ballot as a Libertarian.
25
# on ballot is how many candidates were on the ballot for that race.
26
opp1 is the name of the first opponent. Opponents' names, party affiliations if applicable, and votes, are listed for up to 30 opponents.
27
Positions is how many candidates can win, which is usually just 1. However, for example, if it's 2, then the candidates that come in first and second place are both considered winners and will serve in office.
28
Win type indicates if a candidate won, and if so, how. "won by defeating" means they had to beat another candidate on the ballot to win. "won by default" can happen when a candidate is unopposed or when there are at least as many positions available as there are candidates.
