dt*: the contact stated after getting a carwash, it was noticed that a dimple had formed on the dashboard above the passenger airbag. the dimple worsened through time and the dashboard eventually caved in. on 10/13/06, the dealer was contacted, and determined that the entire airbag system had failed. the airbags and dashboard needed to be replaced. the contact planned to notify the manufacturer after filing a complaint with the nhtsa.

the dash board appears to be falling apart. it has become shiny, sticky, and has multiple cracks that can be seen all over the dash and they are getting worse with time. my vehicle is parked in an enclosed garage most of the time. this does not appear to be simple wear and tear but a defect with the material used to construct the dash. this is ultimately a safety issue as the glare inside the vehicle at times can cause you to be unable to see out your front windshield.

the dashboard of my nissan altima 2007 is melting (literally). i noticed a small pond of goo like material on my dashboard. in less than a week it spread out like cancer and continues to spread. this pond of goo reflects the sunlight on the windshield, creating a glare that blocks my view and endangers my ability to drive. not to mention the loss of my investment not caused by improper use of the vehicle (see picture) i've unsuccessfully tried to get nissan to assume the repair of their defective dashboard. i'm not claiming normal wear and tear or mechanical items but rather a real life threatening issue. i've talked to adrian (457295), john (457263), jessica (57758). i went a nissan dealership where they diagnosed that it'll continue to experience melting and only replacing could fix the issue. today nick (7583) called me to sympathize with me but how unfortunately nissan cannot replace my melting dashboard and that the issue cannot be escalated any further. it is shameful to see how nhtsa has more than 200 reports of melting dashboard, nissan can spend millions of dollars in a super bowl ad #with dad appealing to customer loyalty but nissan cannot assume responsibility of a defective material that couldn't perform in florida. ..updated 03-04-15*bf updated 6/17/2015*js updated 12/09/15.*jb

nissan melting dashboard - my dashboard has become permanently shiny and sticky to the touch. i bought this car used from tennessee and did not have this problem until i brought it home to florida. the shine reflects off of the dashboard and onto the windshield making it incredibly difficult to see while driving, especially on sunny days. i feel unsafe due to this manufacturer issue that nissan has caused for many vehicles. if i am ever in an accident due to this shiny dashboard i will take action against nissan. there was a lawsuit in fl for 2008 altimas with this issue but i did not qualify because mine is 2007 and i did not have the car when the lawsuit was still active. i have tried to make a claim with nissan but they will not do anything about it. if it takes someone dying from an accident from these melting dashboards that is too far. the nhtsa needs to force a recall on all models and years that this effects!! 2007 altimas are affected by these melting dashboards, not just 2008!! many 2007 owners i know have the same problem!!!! i am beyond furious about this issue!!!

my 2007 nissan altima dashboard suddenly started having cracks. the cracks run all along the seams but there are others that just cracked out of no where. i have notified nissan corporate who referred me to my local dealership and when i talked to my dealership they said they ' would look into it' and get back with me. i am aware of the class action lawsuits in florida and texas and they state it's the heat. well i live in louisiana just as hot and i park in a garage. 80,000 miles. with all these cracks and goo and sticky stuff people are having has anyone tested this substance for toxicity. i now have two white spots appearing. my cracks looks like the dashboard is lifting and i was told it could be gases from ' glue' that holds dash down. as a former nurse this could be very dangerous as no one is testing this and it can be affecting thousands of lives who are exposed to this daily. nissan is aware of this problem and they state out of warranty. have they tested this. all complaints are 2007 owners. in my opinion this needs further investigation due to possible substances being released (i have asthma) and other owners who cannot see out their window. we have had our car several years and we also can't roll down the windows with our key or power locks either.

the dashboard in my 2008 nissan altima is badly melted and continues to melt. very sticky and anything that gets on it will stick to it including bugs! i couldn't understand why this would be happening to a vinyl dashboard because i've owned several cars and never encountered such a problem neither had i ever seen that in any other vehicle. i searched on line and was surprised to see that i wasn't the only one with this problem. i showed it to a friend who said it wasn't normal and i should look to see if there was any recalls. unfortunately, there is none.i did discover my dashboard isn't vinyl but seems to be made of a hard foam which melts and scratches easily. the glare from that dashboard is unreal and unsafe. when the sun is shining bright (and it does in pensacola, fl) i have to try to find a spot in the windshield where there is no glare in order to properly see through my windshield. this is definitely a road hazard and safety concern and i can't believe no action has been taken by nhtsa or nissan to correct this defect.

i purchased my 2008 nissan alitma brand new in florida. the dashboard has melted and continues to do so. it has created a horrible glare and it inhibits my vision. not to mention it is unsightly and impossible to clean a sticky, crumbly surface. my local nissan dealer will not cover the cost as i am out of my warranty. there are complaints all over the internet about this problem. i don't believe i should have to pay over $1,000.00 or even $1.00 to get it fixed as it is a manufacturer's defect. there should have been a recall on this long ago. i moved to kentucky 3 years ago and it's melting here also.

the dashboard on my 2008 nissan altima is melting!!!!!!! at first i thought it was something that came from the ac vents, but it just got worse & worse. i couldn't clean it even with a wet rag it was so sticky that it just stuck to it. i kept a windshield proctor in the window and it started to melt into the dash. it got so bad it was a hazard to try and drive. i have made several complaints to my dealership who looked at it and finally said "yes, your dashboard is melting". i was told to call consumer affairs. after months of back and forth, voicemail chasing and arguing that this should be recalled and that they should replace my dash due to their defect that is cause for an accident. a hazard, and now being unable to drive my car. i was told initially they couldn't help because it wasn't a warranty item. eventually they agreed to replace( i should consider myself lucky), but that the cost of labor had to be dealt wit my dealership at a cost of $560. consumer affairs said they will only pay for the part. finally discussed with dealership who stated that part was in, only to find out it wasn't ordered. an order was supposedly placed on 5/13/14 and was told it would take a few days. today is june 3. 2014 and i'm still waiting! just spoke with parts department and the part is on backorder with no other information of when it could possibly come in! so much for the help! i probably will not ever buy another nissan, and it's a shame because i really like my car. *tr

around june 1, 2012, i noticed a few spots that looked shiny on my dashboard in the middle section above the air vents. i did not think much of it at first. however, it got progressively worse, little by little. by june, 2013 it started to project a glare on the front window when the sun hit it . living in florida, it can be blinding at times. my husband noticed that it was sticky to the touch. in may 2013, i was diagnosed with hodgkin's lymphoma and needed to take off work for chemo and radiation. i called ferman nissan in oct.to inquire if any other owners were having the same problem. the service person i spoke with dismissed me and said it would be over 1000 to replace and i was probably responsible for it. i said i was concerned if toxic fumes could be released when the dash is heated, and he said no and took no responsibility for it. in feb. when i was finished with my treatments, i began inquiring with nissan corporate. i am worried that the dash could be toxic for me, when the dash heat up, not to mention the dangerous glare. i was told to get a quote from the dealer, which i did on february, 11, 2014. it said "dash looks like it's melting." estimate 1619.46 plus tax and supplies to replace dash. when i faxed nissan corporate, they still did nothing after making me get the quote. i was so frustrated . then action news 10 did a segment on the melting dash problem and exposed the fact that the issue is very common. please assist me with this situation, as i am worried to continue to drive the car this way in the hot florida sun. *tr
