*1. Students with previous experience in Spanish take a placement exam to determine which class is appropriate for their level of language competency. The class indicated by this exam should be taken during their first semester at Bethel.

*2. All Spanish majors must have a semester-long experience in a Spanish-speaking setting outside the United States. Courses taken during the semester abroad are determined by year of study and student's load.

*3. Double majors should consult with adviser for the second major to avoid sequencing problems.

*4. All language courses 102 level and higher will meet the Second Language (S) course General Education Requirement.

Students seeking licensure in the State of Minnesota in a world language who are not native speakers of the language are required to demonstrate Intermediate - High level speaking proficiency as defined by ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. Students are required to have an extended immersion experience in a country where their language of study is the primary language. Proficiency is evaluated on the MTLE which students are encouraged to take.

Most financial aid packages stipulate 12 credits/semester; Minnesota state grants are reduced when credit load falls below 15 credits/semester. (Interim credits may be split between fall and spring for state grant purposes only.)
