AIA in a nutshell
53
Art in Action is a docent-led program that exposes kids to great masterpieces and art techniques. Each class has anywhere from 8-12 lessons per class each year led by 3-4 docents. Docents (aka parents, grandparents who have been fingerprinted) attend training in Menlo Park each Aug/Sept as well as one meeting at St. Charles to learn the ins and outs of how to lead their lessons. They then prep and teach with the assistance of "helper" volunteers. Artwork is mounted and displayed around the school during the year for all to ooh and ahhh. For those who can't help on campus, we have a variety of jobs that can easily be done at home. The best part? No artistic ability is necessary...just a love of energetic kids and a high threshold for getting paint on your favorite clothing.
