Robotics/AIAnna L.Berkeley Robot for the Elimiination of Tedious Taskshttps://newscenter.berkeley.edu/2015/05/21/deep-learning-robot-masters-skills-via-trial-and-error/ http://www.npr.org/sections/money/2015/05/19/407736307/robots-are-really-bad-at-folding-towelsWhy is it so hard to build a robot that can fold a towel? How does this kind of AI work? What are the implications? This is pretty fun and far-out, has been covered in popular news media, e.g Planet Money, Forbes, Wired. But we can get more in depth with the science and math, and maybe do some really cool interactive visuals.

EntrepreneurshipChris HBerkeley-assisted startups at SkyDeckhttp://skydeck.berkeley.edu/This could be a brief if it's too overlapp-y with previous articles, but I think it could be a cool source of information about various startups going on around Berkeley. I know there are a few science/tech startups there, and it sounds like an interesting and valuable resource. It could be stitched together as a combination of several mini-stories about each startup, for example.

Biology/Social ScienceAnna L.Lenin's bodyhttps://newscenter.berkeley.edu/2015/05/20/lenins-body/How did Soviet scientists preserve Lenin's body almsost 100 years ago? Why is it on display? This probably has amazing title possibilities.

Data ScienceChris HData science collaborative projectshttp://vcresearch.berkeley.edu/datascience (but this isn't a great link)We ran a story on data science a while back, this is a sort of follow up for a few things that they're starting to begin. One is a collaborative "data consulting" project that paired students with organizations around the Bay Area. Could be a good quick brief w/ some nice visualizations.

http://www.lasertalks.com/ http://www.langorigami.com/science/science.php
Bio art is the process of integrating research and art. Some examples are origami mathematics, pictures using fluorescent bacteria, etc. Laser talks (see link) are June 10, and it's featuring Berkeley scientists. This could be a medium length brief with excellent pictures.
