2
Welcome!
3
We are hoping you can download and use this calculator to figure out the cost feasibility of purchasing a milk dispenser and reusable food ware to go with it. Below are the steps:
4
5
Step 1
Download/ Make your own copy of this calculator. Delete "Shareable" in the title of your download and put in your school name.
6
Step 2
Go to the Milk Dispenser with reusable food ware tab.
7
Step 3
Input the number of school sites and number of students enrolled in those school sites you wish to explore. These are all highlighted in yellow at the top of the page.
8
Step 4
Input the percentage of students taking school meals and students taking milk (a guess is okay).
9
Step 5
Input the cost of the 8 oz milk carton per unit. We have seen a range from $0.33- $0.55 for 8 oz milk cartons.
10
Step 6
Input the price you are paying per disposable for both tray and utensils. The tray cost can range from $0.03-$0.20 or more. $0.10 is a good estimate for trays. Most utensils are around $0.01 per unit.
11
Step 7
Input the number of staff who will be washing the reusable dishes and the hour increase and pay rate. We assume that 2 staff will be need at each site, and that their work will increase by one hour. This will be different when you are training and first beginning, but can give you an estimate.
12
Step 8
Use the dropdown tab to indicate whether your school sites your are calculating for have a dish machine or not. It is best to do separate calculations for schools with and with out dish machines.
13
14
Everything else should be calculated for you. If the number below the Year 1 and/or Year 2 Annual Savings is negative and highlighted green, you will be saving money. If the number below Year 1 and/or Year 2 Annual Savings is positive and highlighted red, there will be costs/ out pocket expenses for the school.

Note:There will be some waste cost savings associated with the milk dispensers. This is hard to know for each school and may not apply to some schools, but it can be expected. If waste pickup are cut in half, schools can realize an extra $500 per month of savings, conservatively.

Note:
All these calculation are assumming a 180 day school year. Summer school is not included.
