PURPOSE: Tests provide an introduction to the discipline of Western Dressage; the horse performs only at the walk and jog. The rider should demonstrate correct basic position, use of basic aids, and understanding of the figures. The horse should show relaxation; harmony between horse and rider is important. The horse accepts the aids and influence of the rider. The jog should be a natural gait within the horse's scope and should demonstrate a swinging back.RIDER #8656-3

Enter working jog, proceed down center line without halting

Track left, working jog
Straightness; regularity and quality of the jog; balance and bend in the turn.7.57.5fairly steady/ slight zoom would allow me to see better details , howrse to be sl. more active / turns to be on outside aids: avoid leaning to turn

B
Half circle left 20m, working jog

Proceed straight ahead, working jog
Balance and inside bend on the half circle; straightness; regularity and quality of the jog.7.57.5quiet horse, short tracking i.e. not tracking up.. this is indicative of lack of back suppleness at Intro and basic we encourage riders and trainers to ride the horse enough on the hocks to have tracking up in jog
13
3Between M & CDevelop working walkWilling, smooth transition; balance and bend in the corners; regularity and quality of the walk.77quiet, would love to see you get from the jog to the walk without any "braking" i.e. off the seat or voice so that the "flow" of the walk occurs during the transition
14
4H - B

B
Change rein, free walk

Working walk
Horse willing to freely stretch the neck forward and down; relaxation; swing through the back; ground cover; willing, smooth transition; regularity and quality of the walks.7214like the relaxation looking for overtrack and stretch that causes bascule to the back ( shoulders not to drop0 while stretching)
15
5FHalt 4 seconds. Proceed working walkBalance in transition to square, straight halt; immobility; willing, smooth transition; regularity and quality of the walk; balance and bend in the corner.8216quiet and immobile: possibly could be slightly more square and brisk at walk after
16
6Between A & KDevelop working jogWilling, smooth transition; straightness; regularity and quality of the jog77prompt but inactive: short tracking and possibly toe dragging

B
Half circle right 20m, working jog

Proceed straight ahead, working jog
Balance and inside bend on the half circle; straightness; regularity and quality of the jog.77geometry corect, horse to use and and thoracic sling more correctly
18
8Between F & ADevelop working walkWilling, smooth transition; balance and bend in the corner; regularity and quality of the walk.77slightly slow to develop clear balaNCE IN THE WALK rhy/ was on the shoulders in the walk transition slightly

Change rein, free walk

Working walk
Horse willing to freely stretch the neck forward and down; relaxation; swing through the back; ground cover; willing, smooth transition; regularity and quality of the walks.6212only trackse up, looking for overtrack and energetic walk with purpose: intent to gain ground , neck to round and stretch in order to bascule the back ..

10MHalt 4 seconds
Proceed working walk
Balance in transition to square, straight halt; immobility; willing, smooth transition; regularity and quality of the walk; balance and bend in the corner.9218wak energy contributes to this score... so don't overlook that..

Develop working jog

Change rein, working jog
Willing, smooth transition; balance and bend in the corners; straightness; regularity and quality of the jog77inactive the first step or two / toes dragging behind, nice line and geometry correct

Working walk

Halt, salute
Balance and bend in the turn; straightness; regularity and quality of the jog; willing, smooth transition; regularity and quality of the walk; balance in downward transition to square, straight halt; immobility.88palm to be to back in salute/ centerline and halt straight

27
2ImpulsionDesire to move forward with suppleness of the back and steady tempo.66maintained a steady tempo but there is little loft or spring in the jog and toes dragging often; sometimes known as "ground bound" . the horses SI, hocks and stifle need to take more weight and spring the horse forward, to propel himself .. this will exhibit nee3ded 'back suppleness or swing" . often short tracking and toe dragging today
28
3Rider’s Position, Seat, and HandsWell-balanced elastic seat demonstrating vertical, centered alignment, with light independent contact from hand(s)88quiet and balanced
29
4Rider’s Correct and Effective Use of the AidsEvidenced by the horse's responsiveness; steady elastic connection cultivating athletic expression. Accuracy - precise placement of the figures and transitions, the effectiveness of the rider's aids determines the accurate fulfillment of the required movements of the tests77avoid leaning to turn: work for bend on outside aids ; work to encourage this talented and willing horse to track up
30
5HarmonyThe horse accepts the aids and influence of the rider with attention, relaxation and confidence; and demonstrates a willing partnership between horse and rider resulting in a free flowing performance7.5215this is an incredibly willing horse, staying nicely in connection: the athletic free flowing program will be enhanced with ability to take weight behind and cover ground to bascule back
31
this team has good geometry and a quiet rider!!! since you've asked for additional feedback ... The way that this horse is using his hind legs i.e. toe dragging, little compression of the hocks stifles.. indicates an inability to day to take weight behind. the SI (sacroiliac ). stifle and hocks should flex to take more weight.. toe dragging is a strong indicator that the horse is not comfortable in some joint area back there. the very slight hesitation or the horse not quite stepping into correct rhythm in up and down transitions is another Additionally the thoracic sling can develop- to lift the withers/shoulders and this will "make the "balance" more uphill and "free" as well as ground covering.
