AudacityЋA very basic but very useful sound editing program. Use the manual link to learn the basic buttons and what they do, the rest is playing around. Plenty of premade effects etc. Most of Foldable Sounds' tracks were made using Audacity!
9
Garagebandhttps://www.apple.com/uk/mac/garageband/You may laugh, but its actually pretty decent. Unfortunately, this is a mac and iphone only app. Its free and a very basic version of Logic (a pro mucic making program). Plenty of different plugins and packs with different instrument sounds to play with. The phone version is pretty good too. Allows you to record beats straight onto your phone.CHECK THE "READING RESOURCES" TAB BELOW (bottom left) FOR SOME READING RECOS
10
Google Beat Makerhttps://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/Song-MakerGoogle's answer to garageband / making basic beats using basic presets and instrument groups using a simple sequencer timeline.
11
Google Blob Choirhttps://artsandculture.google.com/experiment/blob-opera/AAHWrq360NcGbwGoogle's answer to an AI choir using blobs to sing all the vowels and notes. You can play with a bass, a tenor, an alto and a soprano and make them all sing together. Google lets you record what you make and you can then use this to experiment with in other free programs.
12
Incrediboxhttps://www.incredibox.com/demo/Fun online beat maker using premade sounds embodied into characters. As you select more characters, you layer on your sounds. Screen record to use sounds and manipulate them with other programes in this list.
13
LMMShttps://lmms.io/Another great and very free downloadable music making program. Slightly more advanced than Audacity, and a cuter inteface.
14
Natural Readershttps://www.naturalreaders.com/online/Another text to speech website option. Use as samples by cutting up and distorting using other programmes or as a voice replacement on a mix for example.
15
Spearhttp://www.klingbeil.com/spear/downloads/Spear allows you to massively slow down and speed up sound, allowing you to also experiment by drawing in your own sine waves with a pen tool. You can translate written or drawn works into sine. Super good for slow, ambient, environmental, space, noise sounds.
16
Text 2 Speech Easy way to transfer text to speech with various voice options. Allows you to download the MP3 until a certain amount. Use screenrecord or your phone to counter the restriction and distort away in other programs.
17
