Gear List (BiS)
Item NamePreferred AffixesItem ReasoningItem Reasoning 2
Head:Mask of JeramInt/Vit/CC/ Firebats Damage or SocketPassive Effect: Pets deal 75-100% more damageThis helm gives a flat 75-100% increase in damage for all pets, making it absolutely necessary to boost the overall damage of your fetishes.
Shoulder:Aughild's PowerInt/Vit/AR/Fetish Army Damage or Gargantuan Damage(2) Set Effect: Reduces damage from ranged attacks by 7%. Reduces damage from melee attacks by 7%. (3) Set Effect: Reduces damage from elites by 15%. Increases damage against elites by 15%.The Augilid's set is one of the most powerful in the game. All damage in the game is split between either melee attacks (including attacks such as molten, plagued, and others) and ranged attacks (Succubus energy blasts), meaning Aughild's gives a flat 7% mitigation to all damage in the game. Not only that, the three set gives the best stats in the game, damage reduction and damage against elites. Both of these are end game stats that help melt T6 content, and you want as much of them as you can get.
Chest:Zunimassa's MarrowInt/Vit/3 Sockets/ Festish Army Damage or Gargantuan Damage(2) Set Effect: + 250 Intelligence (3) Set Effect: +75 Resistance to All Elements. Increase Mana Regeneration by 7.50 per Second. (4) Set Effect: Your Fetish Army lasts until they die.The Zunimassa set is the end game set for all Fetish doctors. With the full set, your Fetish Army will never die. Why do I need them alive you ask, they're the same as my Sycophants, right? The answer is no, the Fetishes summoned by your Fetish Army gain all the toughness of your character, unlike Sycophants who are susceptible to dying in higher difficulties. In addition, with your Army always up, there's no need to worry about having <8 fetishes up at any given time.
Pants:Pox FauldsInt/Vit/2 Sockets/ AR or Life%Passive Effect: When 3 or more enemies are within 12 yards, you release a vile stench that deals 240–320% weapon damage as Poison every second for 10 seconds to enemies within 15 yards. With limited options in the Pants slot after taking into account all current items in use, Pox Faulds finds a home in this build. It's passive damage is an extremely potent addition to the firebats you'll be spewing out.
Belt:Harrington's WaistguardInt/Vit/AR/ Life % or ArmorPassive Effect: Opening a chest grants 100–135% increased damage for 10 seconds. While there are no special flashy stats on this belt like The Witching Hour or Hellcat Waistguard (both discussed further down), the passive effect on it procs in a way unintuitive to how it is explained. When using Harrington's, any item you physically click with grant you the buff, from corpses, rocks, doors to anything else. In a good rift, this can have more than 80% uptime, giving you by far more damage than any other belt option.
Belt 2:The Witching HourInt/Vit/AS/CHDA second belt? Why would you need two belts? Well, sometimes the rift you're in just doesn't have a good number of clickables to get good uptime on Harrington's (unlikely). Sometimes, you have three or four people running Harrington's, and if you are not one of the top 2 in damage, you should let the top 2 use it instead. This is good for a more static option over Harrington's in these situations.
Boots:Zunimassa's TrailInt/Vit/AR/ Firebats Damage(2) Set Effect: + 250 Intelligence (3) Set Effect: +75 Resistance to All Elements. Increase Mana Regeneration by 7.50 per Second. (4) Set Effect: Your Fetish Army lasts until they die.See section E4 for more information on the Zunimassa set
Bracers:Aughild's SearchInt/CC/Vit or AR/ Physical or Fire % damage(2) Set Effect: Reduces damage from ranged attacks by 7%. Reduces damage from melee attacks by 7%. (3) Set Effect: Reduces damage from elites by 15%. Increases damage against elites by 15%.See section E3 for more information on the Aughilid's set
Gloves:Tasker and TheoInt/AS/CC/CHDPassive Effect: Increase attack speed of your pets by 40–50%.These give a 40-50% increase in attack speed for all pets, making it absolutely necessary to boost the overall damage of your fetishes.
Ring:Stone of JordanInt/CC/Elite Damage/Physical or Fire % damageStone of Jordan (SoJ for short) is the end game player's best friend. Elite Damage is one of the best stats in the game and SoJ gives 25-30% of it on top of Elemental Damage %, another extremely potent stat.
Ring:Ring of Royal GrandeurInt/AS/CC/CHDPassive Effect: Reduces the number of items needed for set bonuses by 1 (to a minimum of 2).The Ring of Royal Grandeur (RoRG for short) is a staple for nearly all end-game builds for all classes in the game. Why is it so good, you ask? The effect allows the use of multiple sets in conjuction with each other to stack effects and create a true powerhouse of a character. Our use of RoRG allows us to use Zuni's set, Aughilid's, and (See additional options section) occasionally Blackthorne's set.
Amulet:Countless Julia's CameoInt/CC/CHD/ Physical or Fire % damagePassive Effect: Prevent all Arcane damage taken and heal yourself for 20–25% of the amount prevented.Countless Julia's cameo allows you to not only stand in arcane beams, but stay healthy the whole time you do it! Honestly, any legendary Amulet with the right stats will work for this slot, but it's hard to beat this amulet effect in end game difficulty settings.
Weapon:Starmetal KukriInt/CHD/SocketPassive Effect: Reduce the cooldown of Fetish Army and Big Bad Voodoo by 1 second each time your fetishes deal damage. This weapon is unmatched by any and all others. While extremely rare, if you do get lucky enough to obtain such an amazing knife be ready to melt things 30% faster, with Big Bad Voodoo (Slam Dance) up almost 100% of the time.
Offhand:Zunimassa's String of SkullsInt/Vit/CC/Fetish Army Damage or Gargantuan Damage(2) Set Effect: + 250 Intelligence (3) Set Effect: +75 Resistance to All Elements. Increase Mana Regeneration by 7.50 per Second. (4) Set Effect: Your Fetish Army lasts until they die.See section E4 for more information on the Zunimassa set

Head:CarnevilInt/Vit/CC/ Firebats Damage or SocketPassive Effect: Your Fetishes shoot a Poison Dart every time you do.While a farshoot from the effectiveness of Mask of Jeram, Carnevil is a suitable replacement until you get your own MoJ. It allows you to send out another pet type such as the Garg, or dogs to tank while your fetishes all focus target the monster of your choice. / Pros: Extremely high single target damage, more control over targets, good option for bosses that spawn adds. / Cons: Losing out on 75-100% pet damage, which hurts. A lot.
Shoulder:Pauldrons of the Skeleton KingInt/Vit/AR/Fetish Army DamagePassive Effect: When receiving fatal damage, there is a chance that you are instead restored to 25% of maximum Life and cause nearby enemies to flee in fear.Another way to avoid death is always good. You'll want to have the Aughilid's 3 set bonus somewhere on your gear, but if your shoulders don't matter, then this is a good choice.
Chest:CindercoatInt/Vit/3 Sockets/Fetish Army Damage/ 15-20% Increased Fire DamagePassive Effect: Reduces the resource cost of Fire skills by 23–30%.You'll want your Zuni's 4 set bonus somewhere on your gear, but if your chest doesn't matter, then this is a good choice. / Utility: this can be used to boost Firebats, Zombie Dogs (Burning Dogs) and Gargantuan (Wrathful Protector) damage.
Pants:Blackthorne's Jousting MailInt/Vit/2 Sockets/ AR or Life%(2) Set Effect: + 250 Vitality. Increases damage against elites by 10%. (3) Set Effect: Reduces damage from elites by 10.0%. +25% Extra Gold from Monsters. (4) Set Effect: You are immune to Desecrator, Molten, and Plagued monster ground effects. While Pox Faulds adds a sizable amount of damage, in conjunction with RoRG, you can have the (3) Set Effect of Blackthorne's with only two pieces, allowing you options other than the suggested Legendary Belt + Pox Faulds combination. Using Blackthorne's Legs and Belt with the suggested BiS set means you will have the set bonuses of three sets, SET POWER!!!
Belt:Hellcat WaistguardInt/Vit/AS/Elite DamageThis can roll 7% AS and 5% Elite Damage, both extremely good stats that are not often on belts. The CHD on The Witching Hour usually outclasses the Elite Damage found on Hellcat's, but if you get an exceptionally good roll or cannot find a Harrington's or The Witching Hour, then this is a suitable replacement.
Boots:Cain's TravelersInt/Vit/AR/ Firebats Damage(2) Set Effect: Attack Speed Increased by 8% (3) Set Effect: 50% Better chance of Finding Magical Items. Increases Bonus Experience by 50%.With no exceptional boot options, if you are missing other pieces from the BiS list, two pieces of the cain's set will give you an extraordinary boost in damage from the 8% AS.
Bracers:Reaper's WrapsInt/CC/Vit or AR/ Physical or Fire % damagePassive Effect: Health globes restore 25–30% of your primary resource.Reaper's Wraps are extremely easy to farm, and are a strong second choice if you do not have the Aughilid's set plans.
Gloves:MagefistInt/AS/CC/CHD/ 15-20% Increased Fire DamageYou'll want your Tasker and Theo gloves, but if you can't seem to get them, then this is a good choice. / Utility: this can be used to boost Firebats, Zombie Dogs (Burning Dogs) and Gargantuan (Wrathful Protector) damage.
Ring:Oculus RingInt/AS/AS/ Reduced Damage from ElitesOculus ring rolls with up to 9% AS and another stat (preferably AR, as Reduced damage from Elites is considered the best mitigation stat in the game) can be rerolled to AS as well, allowing up to 16% AS.
Ring:[Insert Legendary Ring]Int/AS/CC/CHDLiterally any good ring will work while you work towards your SoJ and RoRG
Amulet:[Insert Legendary Amulet]Int/CC/CHD/ Physical or Fire % damageLiterally any good amulet will work while you work towards a perfect roll, or Julia's Cameo if you care about the effect.
Weapon:DoombringerInt/Socket/15-20% Life/ 15-20% Physical DamageThe Doombringer is an extremely strong second choice, with Physical damage increasing the damage of your fetishes.
Offhand:[Insert Legendary Mojo]Int/Vit/CC/Fetish Army DamageYou'll want your Zuni's 4 set bonus somewhere on your gear, but if your offhand doesn't matter, then anyone with good rolls will work as a temporary alternative.
Build:Move NameChosen RuneMove ReasoningMove Reasoning 2
Primary:FirebatsVampire BatsVampire Bats allows you to only spend mana on the intial cast, rather than having an additional channeling costFirebats tick at 2x your Attacks per Second, meaning 5x per second to spawn a Sycophant if your ApS is at 2.00 (a good milestone to shoot towards). Plague of Toads (Rain of Toads) ticks at 1.5x your ApS, and has a long range as well as smart targetting, meaning targets that teleport or use illusionist will still be targetted by the spell. Both are good options, and until you have your Zuni set running both can work as an answer to any Elite.
Secondary:Big Bad VoodooSlam DanceSlam Dance increases the damage done while affected by 30%With Starmetal Kukri (or SMK), BBV Slam Dance becomes a permanent 30% damage increase. Without SMK, Slam Dance is a good support ability while playing in groups.
Other Options 1:Spirit WalkJaunt/Healing JourneyJaunt increases Spirit Walk to 3 seconds from 2 seconds. Healing Journey heals approximately 20% of maximum health.Spirit Walk is a staple to every Witch Doctor build. It provides a taunt-like effect, and gives invunerability for 2 seconds or until the spirit left behind is slain. It can be used to gain additional speed, survive and dodge explosions, run through monsters blocking your way, and more when combined with runes.
Other Options 2:Zombie DogsLife Link/Leeching Beasts/Burning DogsZombie dogs act as tanks to hold enemies while you use your primary skill.Life Link reduces the damage you take significantly, by funneling it to your dogs. Leeching Beasts gives your dogs your Life per Hit, allowing for huge self-healing. Burning Dogs adds some damage if you choose to go for Fire % Damage.
Other Options 3:GargantuanAny RuneThe Garg acts as a tank, and deals a hefty amount of damage.Every Gargantuan rune has a situational use. Humongoid allows the Garg to hit multiple targets at a lower damage rate. Restless Giant gives the Garg a temporary Damage and Attack Speed buff when surrounded. Wrathful Protector makes Garg a Damage Cooldown, that will melt any elites currently around you (Does fire damage, Garg AI is very poor so actual use of the cooldown will not be 100%). Bruiser allows the Garg to occasionally stun targets, including bosses.
Other Options 4:PiranhasPiranhadoPiranhado sucks nearby enemies into a vortex, effectively stunning them.Piranhas applied a 15% increased damage buff on targets, giving your entire party a large damage increase over the course of an encounter.
Other Options 5:Fetish ArmyLegion of Daggers
Legion of Daggers summons additional Fetishes.
With the Zunimassa set, your fetishes last until they die, so this skill is a must! If you don't have the set, it may feel like Fetish Army is just taking up a skill slot, so feel free to use or not use it based on your preferences.
Other Options 6:
[Insert skill here]
[Insert Rune here]
Literally any moves you want will work, Festish Army is necessary for the final build, but everything else is up to how you enjoy playing!
Passive 1:Fetish SycophantWhen you cast a physical realm spell, you have a 5% chance to summon a dagger-wielding Fetish to fight by your side for 60 seconds. Physical realm spells are: Acid Cloud, Corpse Spiders, Firebats, Firebomb, Locust Swarm, Piranhas, Plague of Toads, Poison Dart, Wall of Zombies, Zombie Charger. The core of the build, this passive allows the generation of an army of festishes that when combined with your pet-buffing gear, chunk down and destroy all the creatures of Hell.
Passive 2:Pierce the VeilAll of your damage is increased by 20%, but your Mana costs are increased by 30%.20% damage is nothing to scoff at. Firebats and Piranhas are the main sources of mana depletion. Any other spenders should be used accordingly, as this passive is too powerful to pass up.
SidenoteOnly Passives 1 and 2 I consider necessary to the build. Any passive you feel works with what you run will work.Passives after this point I consider to be viable for this build.
Passive:Jungle FortitudeReduces all damage taken by you and your pets by 15%This passive is a solid choice as you move up to higher difficulties where survivability becomes more important.
Passive :Midnight FeastYou can have 1 additional Zombie Dog summoned at one time. The damage of your Zombie Dogs and Gargantuan is increased by 50%.This passive has a strong symbiotic relationship with your pets if you choose to use them in your build. Not only do you get an additonal meat shield, all your non-Fetish pets now deal significantly more damage (it's like an extra half Mask of Jeram!)
Passive:Grave InjusticeGain 1% of your maximum Life and Mana and reduce the cooldown of all of your skills by 1 second when an enemy dies within 20 yards. The range is extended by items that increase your gold pickup radius.Combined with SMK, Grave Injustice allows your BBV Slam Dance to be up 100% of the time. Even with no SMK, if you choose to run BBV, this passive allows you to blow the skill guilt-free, whenever.
Passive :Spirit VesselReduce the cooldown of your Horrify, Spirit Walk, and Soul Harvest spells by 2 seconds. In addition, the next time you receive fatal damage, you automatically enter the spirit realm for 2 seconds and heal to 15% of your maximum Life. This effect may occur once every 90 seconds.Spirit Vessel gives a bredth of useful effects. Spirit Walk can be used more often for more invunerability (I use it with the Healing Journey rune as my main source of healing), Soul Harvest as well, if you choose to run it. The main draw to using Spirit Vessel is the cheat-death mechanic it provides. If there is an opportunity to avoid death, a passive that makes it a reality is very strong. As your clear times and toughness increase, the usefulness of Spirit Vessel will decrease.
Passive :Creeping DeathYour Haunt, Locust Swarm and the damage amplification from Piranhas last almost forever. The listed Damage over Time skills (DoTs) will continue their damage ticks for five minutes, as well as the 15% increased damage buff against targets affected by Piranhas. Even if you are not running DoTs in your build, the additional 15% damage increase your party will get with an application of Piranhas provides a strong resource for higher difficulties and creatures that take greater than 10 seconds to kill.
Passive:Bad MedicineWhen you deal Poison damage to an enemy, its damage is reduced by 20% for 3 seconds.Running Plague of Toads (Rain of Toads) allows your primary to also become a damage reduction for the entire party. The effect works with Pox Faulds procs as well, so while in a more challenging difficulty this passive will allow more room for error.
Passive :
Zombie Handler
You can have 1 additional Zombie Dog summoned at one time. The healths of your Zombie Dogs and Gargantuan are increased by 20%.With additional health, your pets can take more beatings. While a fifth dog can seem enticing, pets actually take up space around enemies, potentially blocking fetishes from being able to attack. This passive feels too weak to consider using full-time, but it could come in handy in some situations, especially those where pets are expected to be the main tanks!
Passive :Tribal RitesReduce the cooldowns of your Fetish Army, Big Bad Voodoo, Hex, Gargantuan, Summon Zombie Dogs and Mass Confusion skills by 25%.All these great skills, with 25% CDR (Cooldown Reduction)! Big Bad Voodoo Spam, Gargantuan (Wrathful Protector) spam, Mass Confusion spam, Pre-Zunimassa set Fetish Army spam, Summon Zombie Dog spam (lol incoming Sacrifice build?). The possibilities are endless! A good passive for group play where cooldowns, buffs and debuffs are required.
