METHODOLOGY (Data should include natural-recreational acres permanently conserved/restored/improved/remediated as of 12/31/2021)
Data should only be collected for projects that: are key resources of the South Mountain Partnership (SMP), had involvement from the SMP, are within the SMP boundary, and were completed by SMP primary or significant partners. Acres Permanently Protected
CLs should follow the basic guidance below:
• Collect aggregate conserved acreage data from primary CL partners, including municipal, county, and state entities.
• Acreage should include lands that have been acquired primarily for conservation purposes by private and public entities and private lands where permanent conservation easements have been placed;
Do not include trail (hiking, biking, motorized, etc.) easements (this data would be included in other metrics);
• Avoid double-counting; for example, only count lands once that have been protected by one entity and transferred to another.
• Include projects that were funded through DCNR’s grant program.

Acres of Restored/Improved Lands
• Collect aggregate restored acreage data from primary CL partners, including municipal, county, and state entities.
• Acreage should include lands that have been improved or remediated, including but not limited to: - Forest buffer installations (include those buffers installed on agricultural lands if forested) - Invasive plant removal - Native plantings - Mine reclamation - Agricultural BMPs (e.g., streambank fencing, grassed waterways, conservation plans, etc.)
• Avoid double-counting; for example, only count projects once that have multiple partners.
• Include projects that were funded through DCNR’s grant programs
