Joining Aptoleague

In the final 1-2 weeks of each season, sign-ups for the following season will be opened on the apterous homepage.

New players are typically assigned to a division befitting their rating, to ensure all members get fun but challenging matches

New entrants can never automatically be placed in the top division

Previous players are always welcomed back. If they have been inactive for a while, I may wait to ensure they remain active before reincluding them

Division Layout

Players are split into ~6 divisions of 8-12 players

Each player plays everyone in their division once - with around 1.5 months to play these games

Roughly the top 2 in each division will be promoted, while the bottom two will be relegated

Unplayed games

Unplayed games are typically ignored if neither player has made a significant effort to get the match played

Matches can be awarded to one player if they aptomail their opponent (including me in it) at least 5 days prior to the stage end

If a player plays less than or equal to half (floor function) of their league games during a stage, all of their completed may be expunged, at the organiser's discretion

If a player plays zero games or is inactive ("last seen", not necessarily playing) for a spell of 14 days or more, they will be removed from next season.

Games are considered valid if they are played before the organiser removes unplayed fixtures. The official deadline on the page is the earliest this can happen.

Tiebreaks

If two players are tied on points, the following criteria are used to separate them:

i) Points difference

ii) Points scored

iii) H2H that season

iv) Who can most accurately estimate the number of baked beans in the next can the organiser eats

Handicap Cup

Aptoleague also features a cup every season, using handicaps calculated during the season to make matches even

This cup works as a straight knockout, and begins as soon as the league stage ends

The cup runs concurrently with the new season's league fixtures

Champions Trophy

At the end of every calendar year, all division/cup winners are invited to compete in the Champions Trophy

This is a knockout tournament using 9 rounders. The winner is the overall annual champion of AptoLeague
