In 2021, as part of the LD4 Discovery Affinity Group, Laura Akerman from Emory University and Allison Bailund from San Diego State University started the Linked Data In Systems For Discovery spreadsheet identifying discovery systems with linked open data related features. The spreadsheet lists both systems in production as well as those in prototype stage. We hope this can serve as an inventory of current/past work, and also inspire future efforts. Some of this information may have come from older sources and may not be up to date.

We are sharing this spreadsheet for community review. We encourage people to add systems which use linked open data and address discovery needs. We also encourage people to add corrections to URLs or update the existing entries with more current information. Please use this form to submit any corrections or additions by December 15th, 2024. Please forward this email to others who would be interested in contributing.

Once finalized, this spreadsheet will also be available on the LD4 Discovery Affinity Group wiki at ld4.github.io/discovery.

The LD4 Discovery Affinity Group meets regularly to discuss topics at the intersection of discovery and linked data, exploring how linked data can enhance discovery from a variety of perspectives including user experience, design, metadata, and technical implementation. Recently, members of the affinity group co-authored a white paper, the “LD4 Knowledge Panel Recipe”. This paper outlines practical considerations and approaches to implementing knowledge panels in a technology-agnostic way. Additionally, the paper discusses common example uses and potential complications.
