Almost everyone I spoke with had either already see flyers, seen it on the news, or seen it on social media. 845-521-2704kathrynbraisted@gmail.comDCvery flexibleyes8/3/21: Canvassed the entire search area from 3:30-5:30pm including inside buildings when possible (CVS, Whole Foods, etc), public parks, and under nearby bridges. Canvassed a bit in the adjacent search area to the north as well. No immediate leads. Didn't have flyers to post but will return on 8/5 to post.

Shared Ian's flyer online in the following places: NextDoor North Petworth, NextDoor Brookland, Brookland DC Facebook page, Greater Petworth Facebook page, and on my Mamie D Lee community garden listserv (includes residents from many NE and NW neighborhoods ie Fort Totten, Michigan Park, Woodridge, Petworth, Logan Circle)

8/5: A neighbor told me he saw someone who matched Ian's pictures and description walk past his front yard in the 4400 block of 9th St NW a few days ago. He said maybe on Saturday afternoon. He said "I remember because most of the foot traffic on the block is local, and I had never seen that man before: tall, slender, and seemingly focused on or distracted by his own thoughts. He didn't acknowledge me or say hi (I was in my front yard watering plants), which most people do." I asked if he remembered what clothes the person was wearing, or if he or a neighbor had a camera like Ring that may have captured him as he walked past. Update: he said the person might have been wearing a rumpled polo shirt, but he can't remember. He doesn't have a camera but said he'd ask neighbors. (No update from neighbors.)

8/12: if anyone would like to join me in canvassing along Georgia Ave in section 27 this weekend, please let me know! I'd love the company rather than doing that stretch alone.

Hit a few parks in Brookland on the drive home. One man said he thought he's seen him there before, but was under the impression it was more than 2 weeks ago. 8/4/21: Returned to zone 15 with Ryan Carey to check on flyers that were put up and none were removed on the lightposts. Drove around the area by the Rhode Island Ave. metro station, Eckington backstreets, Brentwood, and the Fort Lincoln Cemetary, as it borders the search area. Spoke to a few groups of people that said they "are outside all day every day", who haven't seen him but will keep an eye out. Wasn't able to do flyers today, but will print and post more tomorrow and Friday. 8/6/21: Returned to area 16 and posted 50 flyers around the perimeter (Bladensburg Rd-->Eastern Ave-->Rhode Island Ave-->Montana Ave), and a few at parks. Spoke with roughly 30 groups of people who all said they would keep an eye out, about half had seen Ian's photo already. One woman said she may have seen him on Bladensburg Rd coming from Fort Lincoln Park about a week ago, but she didn't seem to be of sound mind. Ryan Carey and I searched Fort Lincoln Park on foot on 8/3 and spoke to maintenance crews there who said they hadn't seen anyone. A man, who's work requires him to drive all over Langdon/Brookland every day, took a few flyers to show his co-workers who are out in other areas of the city. Was very adamant about helping. Barnard

Joey Geglia18yes(202) 256-5377JMGeglia@gmail.comDCAfternoons and evenings Tuesday through Thursday.Yes8/3/21: Cullen and I were in the area from 2:45 to 6. Of all the homeless people we talked to, 2 said they saw him. One said he saw him “around” outside the library at 6th and Rhode Island, Cullen asked when but he didn’t really specify - said the past couple days; I asked the how tall he was and he didn’t get it right, he said Ian was his height and he was like 5’8”. If we wanted to follow up we could check security footage of library but I didn’t find his story convincing. Second person said they saw him last Wednesday at the church at 1313 ny ave, which is a church where homeless go for food. But she didn’t get the clothing description right, said he was wearing a white T-shirt with black writing on it. We went to the church and dropped off some fliers (it was closed). We’ll have to follow up (prob via phone?) tomorrow to see if they saw him there

We also stopped by So Others May Eat and dropped off a few fliers with the staff. I also saw another homeless man at the camp under the bridge on First & M st. NE say he saw him. I asked his height and he didn’t know. He also didn’t know the date he saw him. He asked if he had and shakes or twitches because the person he saw was ‘shaking too hard he couldn’t light his cigarette.’

We also went to the fire station at Brentwood and Rhodes Island (Station 26) and they said they would put the flyer up inside and keep an eye out. One of the fire fighters said he saw a panhandler with a sign collecting money at the intersection of Bladensburg and New York this morning at around 5:30 am that was of a similar build to Ian. He said he looked like Ian but ""scruffier."" We drove through that area on our way back.

Drove on Bunker Bill Road and zigzagged through the neighborhoods. It's very residential, but we found two free libraries to post fliers on. We posted to three bus stops, two gas stations, a quick mart (next to Barnard Hill), and found a strip mall with a Dollar Store, Head Shop, Subway and posted fliers in there. The handful of people we did get to talk to had not seen him, however everyone was very supportive of posting the flier or taking a picture of it. None of the churchs were open, so we did not post there. We also came across a few fliers that were already posted on the boarder of this search zone.

One individual said he saw someone with similar characteristics to Ian (height and build) "about a week ago" on the 900 block of Rittenhouse St. carrying a "green backpack." I did not put a lot of stock in the information—the individual seemed very uncertain and just wanted to help. I'm very encouraged and heartened by how much strangers seem to care and want to help with the search for Ian. I found that people ask questions if you're just walking around with the flyer visible. Also, grocery and dollar stores will let you hang posters but not Walmart. Good luck to others! Oh and if you're in need of flyers, I have several extra and will give them to you if you're willing to venture to the Cleveland Park area.Leuck

Charlotte Healy38YES908-406-1224healy90@gmail.comDCVery flexibleyes8/3/21: I spent 2 hours driving and walking through area 38 (around 11am -1pm), I put up and distributed around 20 flyers in spots like small parks, restaurants, gas stations, and electricity polls. One person who worked at Cielo Rojo said Ian looked familiar but he didn't have other information (I gave him a flyer). Another person near the Marathon Gas Station on 650 (likely a homeless person) said he thinks he's seen him around those stores (mcDonalds etc) but he thought the guy he was thinking of looks younger than the pictures. He didn't seem too sure, but I told him where I put up the sign at the gas stations. Healy

Asked businesses along the NH Ave if they've seen anyone who resembled Ian, but no one did. They did keep the flyers. A woman at a bus stop took a bunch and said she'd pass them out to ppl on the buses she takes. Walked through some of the residential area east of NH Ave but didn't see too many ppl. Tried to search near Takoma Branch as much as I could. Moore

Handed to some people but no one recognized him. 8/4/21: By McDonalds on 14th and U st a homeless man was confident he has seen Ian around the that area. However, when I pressed for concrete details, the details were spotty. He said he was wearing "normal clothes and sandals." I asked when he saw him and he stumbled over his words saying "sometime in the past week." I asked for specific location, and he kept pointing east on U st. said he saw him on south st. I don't know where south street is and I'my not very confident in the credibility of this tip, but I thought it was worth sharing. And at the very least, this corner is within the 19 areas that has been discussed so probably worth doing more work in the area. Tierney
