He was pretty timely at returning tests and quizzes. I would have liked more comments on my exams because sometimes it was confusing as to what exactly I did wrong on a certain question.

He was pretty effective although sometimes it felt like he glossed too much over the more complicated topics and some of the math associated with those topics. I also would've liked more detailed slides.

Professor Tan did a great job engaging the class through is discussion questions (practice problems). He would walk through them and make sure everybody was on the same page. Additionally, he tried to incorporate real world examples during topics that were very theoretical.

I am majoring in Economics and tried very hard in this class. I tried to participate in most classes and ask questions when I was confused.

Professor Tan was very responsive to exams and would sometimes go over them so everybody was on the same page going forward.

Professor Tan always tried to make the class more than just Economics. He took interest in students' lives. Additionally he was very responive to questions in class and his office hours were always helpful.

The course was of high quality. Given this is Professor Tan's first semester at Hamilton, he did an excellent job and I would expect him to get even better as he gains more experience as a profesor.

This course definitely makes you think. Using real world problems help. I felt like I actually had gained something from this class.

I would always be willing to participate. Even if I was wrong, it never felt like I was scolded. We would always work together to solve problems.

Professor always provided in depth feedback on homework’s and test which was helpful to prep for further assignments

Professor Jay is such a nice person. He is always willing to help out anyone who needs help. He goes slow when needed and always provides clarification.

Excellent. Material presented well, online slides almost always a great resource. Instructor facilitated a comfortable and friendly environment, and was highly receptive to questions in and out of class.

High and middling, respectively. For the former, I thought the weekly problem sets were strenuous and difficult within reason, and required substantial effort on my part. That is not a complaint—they prepared me for midterms—but it definitely positions this class as high effort. As for my lower engagement, I would call that a plus as well. In a 200-level micro course, I feel like not having to be fully 100% dialed in every class to learn the relatively easy material is a sign of good lecturing and online resources. I do wish the discussion question answers were posted.

Grading on problem sets and exams is accompanied by generally clear feedback with some limited exceptions. Timeliness was less than ideal early on, but got much faster after mid-semester feedback from students cited it as a desired improvement. Huge fan of that!

Communication generally excellent, and I felt like instructor had a generally reliable intuition for how much he could expect students to understand implicitly and what he needed to explain, especially when working through lengthy math. Instructor was super available in class and out, and it always felt like he was excited to be able to help when I asked a question.

Excellent. I don't really know what to say beyond what I have above, but I thought this course was basically the ideal way to cover the somewhat dry and simple topics of 200-level macro. If I had to make one note, I thought that the problem sets were inconsistently demanding, and that this is probably a reason for the decline in their regualrity as the course approached completion.

Highly effective. Enthusiastic, clear, offered supplementary materials beyond expectations, and was always willing to help close a gap in my understanding. No notes.

Lecture based, but also engaged students a lot of the time. I thought he did a great job teaching concepts and explaining them when people had questions. Was very organized as well.

I attended every class, did all work outside of class, was pretty interested in the subject.

Pretty good, for the subject. Would go over the tougher exam questions after taking them which was helpful.

Amazing, he was always available to meet with him, was very good at helping his students and went out of his way to do so.

I believe professor Tan created a very engaging and fun learning environment. He is a great person, and has a great understanding of the subject. He explained course material in various creative ways to help student understanding, incorporated feedback and made the classroom a great place to be.

Professor Tan provides good feedback and makes an active effort to give as much partial credit as possible for submitted work.

Every interaction with professor Tan was pleasant. He's always available to answer questions and interacts with students with a smile on his face at all times.

It was a very open learning environment where we could feel free to answer or ask a question if we had one.

I attended every class, participated, and got all the coursework outside of class completed.

It took a bit of time for our exams and quizzes to be graded, but not an unreasonable amount of time.

Prof. Tan was always very responsive to questions or comments, whether they were in class or during office hours.

I think the instructor created a very open class environment and encouraged participation from all of us and is very knowledgeable on the subject.

This class was very thought provoking, and the instructor did a great job of encouraging learning. The professor would often ask the class if we had any questions and would provide plenty of opportunities for class participation.

I put in tons of effort into this course. I did not miss a single day of this class. I definitely had to engage with course materials a lot out of class in order to fully grasp the subjects.

He definitely set a high standard for the class. He left very good comments on our tests so that we could fully understand what we did wrong.

At times the instructor may not have been the clearest, but he was always very willing to explain what he meant until the class understood what was expected. He was really good at explaining questions and was very available and helpful during office hours.

Overall, the course was extremely high quality. I already had some prior knowledge of some of the topics in this course from taking Econ 100 but this course helped me unlock a much deeper understanding of these familiar topics.

Overall Professor Tan was extremely effective. His ability to answer questions in a ton of depth was something that I found to be extremely helpful during this course. He also did a good job challenging us with discussion questions in class as well as with the problem sets.

The learning environment was rigorous but supportive. The instructor presented material clearly and structured the class in a way that pushed us to think critically through graphs, models, and multi-step problems. I felt comfortable asking questions, and the course organization helped me steadily improve my understanding of core microeconomic concepts.

I put a strong amount of effort into this course, especially given the pace and difficulty of the material. I attended consistently, participated when I could, and spent time outside of class reviewing notes and working through problem sets to keep up with the theory. Although micro theory was challenging, I stayed committed throughout the semester.

Feedback on problem sets and exams was timely and helped me understand where my reasoning needed improvement. The instructor set high standards, but the expectations were clear and fair. Their comments often pointed out specific steps or assumptions I needed to revisit, which strengthened my grasp of the material.

The instructor communicated clearly and encouraged students to ask questions, especially during problem-solving demonstrations. They were responsive to student confusion and took time to explain concepts in different ways when needed. Office hours were helpful, and the instructor made themselves accessible when students needed clarification.

The course was challenging but very well designed. It covered essential theoretical tools in a way that built a strong foundation for future economics coursework. Although demanding, the structure and pacing of the course allowed me to grow significantly in my analytical and mathematical skills.

I found the teacher easy to understand and detailed in his explanation of the material. He thoroughly walked through the material and guaranteed understanding in the class. The problems sets followed parallel to the material and helped strengthen my understadning. He made it easy to ask calrifying questions.

I attended and participated in every class, I worked hard to understand the material through coursework and office hours. I took this class in accordance with my econ major.

He graded our midterms and problems sets quickly and responded to our class feedback about problem sets readily.

Professor Tan was nice and easy to talk to. He welcomed questions and would often follow up with more detailed reponses by email after a question asked in class or office hours. He was readily available to meet and willing to take time to walk through the material

Professor Tan was happy to answer any questions we had. He used Discussion Questions in class to give us time to work on a concept we were learning and then go over the answer immediately after, which I found very helpful.

I am majoring in economics and have taken many other econ classes prior. I attended every class.

Getting feedback on problem sets was a bit slow - it sometimes took a few weeks. Getting quizzes or exams back was a little faster; the return time for quizzes was fairly quick, but sometimes it took a while to get exams back. The feedback on the quizzes and exams was helpful. It was helpful to go over solutions in class, and we were able to go over any additional questions in office hours.

He was very available during office hours and was able to meet outside of them, if needed. His was very responsive to questions and comments. In addition, he had a mid-semseter survey and seemed to take the feedback into account, which I appreciated.

Overall, Professor Tan was a very effective instructor. I feel like he explains concepts well and at a good pace. However, there were topics on Exam 2 and the Final that we weren't able to go over in class, but still expected to know for the final. Towards the end of the semester, it felt very rushed, and I feel like he wasn't able to teach concepts as thoroughly as he had at the beginning of the semester.

Good learning environment, felt like we went a little too slow at the beginning of the semester, leading to a rushed end of the semester. Would have liked to have more time to focus on Oligopoly and Game Theory. I think part of that is Professor Tan really cares about his students and wants to make sure everyone's on the same page.

High effort and engagement. I'm an economics major, so this was by far my most important class, and I want to raise my major GPA.

Fairly clear, timely response to questions and comments, was kind of difficult to set up outside of class meetings with Professor Tan.

High quality of course, allows students to begin thinking like entrepreneurs, (something this school doesn't really facilitate well).

Highly effective, lectures and lecture ntoes are very helpful along with discussion questions. He is the Econ professor who has given me, by far, the most resources to assist with preparation.

I found this course to be very thought provoking and challenging. The instructor was adequate in facilitating learning, but was very engaged and passionate. Some lectures were creative and collaborative which I believe helped a lot. My understanding of the subject has increased to an extent, and I was able to easily ask questions and make comments.

I attended every class and participated in some classes. I was involved in coursework outside of class by means of office hours and qsr. I had prior interest and preparation in the subject as a prerequisite for my concentration.

The instructor gave useful and timely feedback on assignments and examinations. The instructor communicated and explained the standard of work and was available to speak about any feedback.

The instructor was adequate in their clarity of communication and the instructor was very responsive to questions and comments. The instructor was very available in office hours or by other means of communication and was very flexible in trying to make meetings work.

The overall quality of the course was adequate due to the effective instructor but pretty one-dimensional class organization. The class was structured simply with only exams, problem sets, and lectures for the most part. I think some more creative and engaging assignments and teaching days can help make the material more intuitive and easier to digest.

The overall effectiveness of the instructor was good due to the knowledge and engagement of the instructor. The instructor is knowledgeable in the subject and was very engaging with the class in terms of making sure we really understood the material, and willing to go over it again or with other methods.

I think Professor Tan ran the lectures well. He spends time explaining, always lets the class engage, and frequently gives us in-class discussion questions. My understanding of the subject definitely increased, and I was pleased with my progress. We were always able to ask questions, and Professor Tan sought out our feedback through a Google survey.

I attended every single class, but I did not raise my hand much in this course. I completed all assignments on time. I have an interest in economics and had an interest before this class, but I have always been a little more interested in macro.

Professor Tan grades quizzes and exams quickly and is fair with his grading. He sets clear standards for assignments and gives good feedback if you seek it out.

Professor Tan is always available during office hours and will always stop lectures to answer questions.

I think it is a high-quality course. The syllabus clearly outlines how the course will be organized and how it will be graded. The work is all helpful, and there isn't any busy work. I think all of the content is relevant and important to learn.

I think Professor Tan is effective, but I definitely had to teach myself a few subjects in this class ahead of the midterms and final. He lectures well and is very friendly towards the students but sometimes his explanations don't fully click in my head.
