Website ContentsThe DINANTRONICS™ Performance Tuner uniquely has the capability to adjust target Lambda, correct short term trim as well as ignition timing errors induced by raising boost pressure. This enables Dinan calibration engineers to optimize air/fuel mixture and ignition timing at elevated boost pressure throughout the entire gamut of engine RPM and engine load. Additionally, the ability to correct short term trim corrections (the difference between target and scheduled fuel mixture) remain within OEM specifications. This minimizes knock sensor activity, which in turn means smooth engine performance, catalyst protection and power increase, while this is also required to make the car emissions legal.

“It’s not just about the ultimate numbers, you don’t want the car to run erratic. For example if you raise the boost too much on the M3 and you change gears, there’s a load spike and the knock sensor goes off and the cars falls on its face and then it picks back up again once the detonation goes away and you shift again and it falls on its face again and you lose as much time when it falling on its face as you gain by running the extra boost in between so the car doesn’t really accelerate any faster. You can certainly put it on a chassis dynamometer and you can measure a higher power number but the car doesn’t actually go as fast...So if we have to give up 5 or 10 hp to make the car run better we’ll do it all day long.”

Maps: Full torque which runs max boost early on. Standard power which runs max boost only after 4k RPM's and linear which gradually increases boost starting at 2K RPM's. Linear and standard help the car hold traction at lower RPM's as full boost is not released early on and full power / torque is for customers who are not concerned with traction.

With this direct plug-in BMW performance part, you can expect to experience 75+WHP gains and 68+ft-lbs of torque.This Performance Module is a direct plug in to the existing engine harness for a factory appearance and fitment and an instant 60hp gain @ 6650 RPM and 75ft-lbs of torque at 6500 RPM.

All of the factory safeguards remain in place, including overload protection and warm-up protocols to preserve longevity and factory drive-ability. One of the key advantages of this type of system is that it is unaffected by factory BMW updates and service. If BMW updates the computer software to fix any small bugs or issues, the Turner performance upgrade is not lost or overwritten. This is key on new models because BMW is constantly releasing small software updates. All of the factory diagnostics and service access is retained. A valet connector is included and installs in minutes to bypass the performance module and revert the car to factory settings. This upgrade was developed, tested, and dyno proven for all 2014, 2015 and newer BMWs with the S55 engine.

The throttle boost module is also included and has three settings for throttle sensitivity. Choose a stock setting for the original calibration, Sport (40% faster response), or Race (75% faster response). The module simply plugs in to the throttle pedal and sends modified signals to the ECU. Settings are changed via a remotely-located button. This throttle enhancement is included in the engine Performance Module but not required for its installation or operation.
The Race Pack Pro Stage One is our simple plug and play unit that allows you to get reliable consistent safe horsepower with out having to cut or splice into any of the wiring harnesses in the vehicle. It comes in a weather resistant box and and has all weather proof connecters. The box is designed to handle the rigorous environment of the engine compartment which heat cycles and gets damp ect. The TTFS Race Pack Pro Stage One also has integrated mounting tabs and comes with a billet bracket so that it can be securely mounted in the engine compartment. The wiring harness is a custom fit and plugs in as well as has all the provisions as the factory does to accept all factory mounting brackets. It also comes with a bypass harness which allows you to unplug the piggy back and insert this plug and your back to the stock configuration. “The problem with most piggyback boxes on the market is that all they do is raise the boost, by either modifying the manifold pressure sensor or the air mass meter but they don’t go in and correct for these variances in fuel mixture and emission timing. They rely on the knock sensor of the engine to do this correction for them. And then the engine doesn’t run as smooth as it could, and doesn’t make as much power as it can, and the catalytic converter temperature is higher than it should be. So at Dinan, we modify a lot more signals, if you look at our wiring harness here, and you look at most aftermarket controllers, there’s just a few cables coming out, but we run 54 plug connectors, 4 of them, this is a V8 BMW, (inaudible) 216 wires for the box. This gives us to ability to process whatever we want to. And we modify the same manifold pressure sensor and the same air mass meter as everyone else to raise the boost but then we go on to on top of that to modify the waste gate signal to make sure it is in sync so we don’t get a fault, and then we also program the oxygen sensor signal to the engine as well as the fuel flow to the engine so the target fuel mixture is correct and the fuel flow is correct for the target mixture. This enables us to get much smoother performance and much better drivability…So you may not necessarily see the number on the dyno but when you drive the car on the street you’ll feel a lot better response from the car particularly during gear shifts or just part throttle drivability will be a lot better with our product because we spend all this extra time and research into it.”

Our numbers on a dyno may not be the max numbers out there but there is a reason. If we were to add that extra boost that other companies run, the engine will be into the knock control system so much that you can feel the correction it is making. In addition the other units on the market do not do fuel correction they rely on the O2 sensor and knock control system to drag the mixture to the correct level. The problem with this is when you change gears it takes some time for the factory ECU to determine what this correction is; resulting in a flat spot until it figures it out. This is what you were feeling. The Dinan ECU has advanced fuel control features that add fuel to the engine so we are not relying on the factory ECU to compensate for the lack of fuel. We also have a feature that adds fuel only during gear changes to quench detonation that occurs from the spike in load as a result of the gear change. The better fuel control provides dramatically better drivability. This higher level of tuning for the road and lack of pauses on gear changes make the Dinan car faster even if you measure a lower number on the dyno. Even if more boost is a little faster what good is it if the car has bad drivability."
Unlike other products on the market E-tronic is a sophisticated multi channel controller that has RPM and MAF integration. This provides for full control of boost at all RPM ranges and proper AFR calibrations without the need to splice into any factory wiring. OEM grade hardware is used to provide high quality, safe, reliable power with excellent driveability. Pre-set calibrations provide for a very simple installation without the need for setup or adjustments once installed. E-Tronic can be disabled or removed at anytime allowing customers to keep factory warranty.

Our CAM sensor integration allows us to setup options like our linear map which we can scale boost levels based on RPM's. I am also running the linear map in my personal car and I prefer it as it allows for better traction at lower RPM's and solid overall performance. It does give up a little power overall up top to our full power maps but I do not really notice it on anything but the dyno.

I have been running mine for awhile now and I have not been able to trip a CEL or have any performance issues. I have also not had any reports from my customers or dealers on issues. We do have MAF integration with our controller which can help provide additional fuel during throttle transition and keeps the system from exceeding max MAF values which if not done can cause issues. We also keep boost levels in a range that we have tested and feel confident that the vehicle can run via our piggyback with the amount of control we have so customers should not have performance issues or CEL's.
