Data from the 683 possession hearings witnessed by the Bureau between July and the start of September 2021

Data from court lists received via email from CourtServe. We compiled data from 10 of the busiest courts in England and Wales where the cases where clearly identified as possession hearings (both review and substantive hearings are included)

A code created by TBIJ to help track each hearing

The date of the hearing

The name of the person bringing the possession claim (where blank we have anonymised private landlords)

Names of the court

The number of minutes the hearing took (if logged)

Whether a private landlord, social landlord or mortgage lender

Whether the defendant was there on the day

Whether the defendant was represented and if so, by whom

If the case was adjourned or not

Notes on the above

Whether the case involved: Children, mental health problems, disability, debt or immigration

The reasons mentioned

The amount of rent arrears noted

The grounds that were mentioned in the case

Whether Covid was explicitly mentioned and by whom

Coded outcomes. P = possession + number of weeks given (eg P14 = possession in 14 days, SP = Suspended possession order)
