This session also covers behaviors and beliefs to put into practice in your classrooms to create a classroom culture that promotes social justice and success.
Tiered Instruction for Students with IEPsUnderstanding, Expressing, and Regulating Emotions in the Classroom: Whether we acknowledge it or not, our students' lives as well as our own extend into the classroom. As teachers we need to create spaces for students to understand and express their emotions and in order to do that we need to learn to regulate and express our own. Without doing so we lose an opportunity to connect with our students, to model healthy adult emotional reactions, and leave open opportunities for conflict. In this session we will review strategies from Marc Brackett's Permission to Feel to learn to recognize/label our emotions, understand their root causes, and learn strategies of regulation/expression that will not only benefit our students but us as individuals.
