Italy had the most active low-emissions zones (LEZs) in Europe as of June 2022, with 172. Germany had the second-highest number of clean air zones, with 78. In comparison, Spain had just three LEVs as of June 2022. However, it is projected that the number of LEZs in Spain will increase to roughly 150 by 2025.



Clean air zones were introduced to European cities with the aim of reducing harmful air pollution. As of June 2022, 320 LEVs had been introduced in European city regions.
