The Garden is a free and open space for anyone to play outside, build community, and cultivate food, herbs, and native plants in a way that is sustainable for the environment and healthy for the body and mind. Not yet assigned.http://alamocommunitygarden.weebly.com/ Open to general publicA former vacant lot, across from the Alamo Recreation Center, Alamo Community Garden was created on land owned by neighborhood resident J. E. Mosby in 1981. It was developed through the efforts of the Alamo Recreation Center, (the no longer existent) Greenspot Neighborhood Gardening Program, the City of Austin's Senior Luncheon Program, Austin Community Gardens (which merged with Sustainable Food Center in 2001), and a few dedicated gardeners. The Alamo Garden began in spring of 1981 with Senior Citizens participating in The Senior Luncheon Program and was expanded in the spring of 1982 to include neighborhood residents. Later, the garden became an educational garden serving primarily youth. Alamo Community Garden is now a collectively run urban garden that exists to provide space to members of all ages to grow organic produce and to promote community. This garden receives fiscal sponsorship from Sustainable Food Center.

Grow Together offered a grant to DCMC and with leadership approval, the garden was planted April 2013.The garden is maintained by staff and volunteers, with the leadership of our Master Gardener, Ken Ming. Beneficiaries of the garden produce include gardeners, staff, Texas Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Childhood Obesity patients and families, and visitors. We also have Farmer’s Markets in conjunction with the hospital’s cafeteria where the produce is given away on a donation basis. We recently received support from the Charles Grant Foundation to expand the garden and create a more interactive, museum-like environment for patients and visitors to be able to use. We hope to begin this expansion in the first quarter of 2017.   NA.75 acreApril 13th 2013NAChairs, tables, pavilion, 3-acre space with pond, electricityGarden Information: *Garden Name: Charlie Grant Garden at Dell Children's Medical Center *Address:4900 Mueller Blvd *Zip:78723 *English Contact:Lauren Brauer

https://cherrycreekgarden.com/https://www.facebook.com/CherryCreekGardens/Open to general publicIn 2010, FEMA gave a grant to the City of Austin to buy out a portion of a South Austin neighborhood with an extensive history of flooding. The houses in this section of the neighborhood were razed. The remaining neighbors worked in conjunction with the City of Austin to create the Cherry Creek Community Garden on a portion of this land in an effort to bring the South Austin community together. Working together, the neighborhood and City of Austin have begun to transform the area surrounding the garden into a wildflower and native species preserve. The City has created a mulched walking trail that winds along Williamson Creek and is orchestrating riparian efforts in that same space. Cherry Creek Community Garden's grand opening was in April 2015. Not yet assigned - this garden is run primarily by individuals who speak Burmese or Matu.http://www.parkerlane.org/cool-stuff-that-happens-here.htmlNoneBegan at Parker Lane United Methodist Church (PLUMC) as a typical community garden in 2009 with 10 plots (3 feet by 10 feet) gardened by families and individuals from the church and surrounding neighborhood, and an adjacent common garden managed by a coordinator with assistance from volunteers (15 feet by 40 feet). Gradually expanded year by year. Participation in plots declined in 2010 and 2011; by 2012, the entire garden space (approximately 50 feet by 80 feet) was managed by the resident garden coordinator with volunteer help primarily on weekend work days. Produce was shared by the manager and volunteers, but most of it was shared with the congregation following worship services, in PLUMC charitable programs, and through other charitable food pantries in the area. In 2014, members of the Austin Matu Community, a faith community of Burmese refugee families which was becoming part of the Parker Lane United Methodist Church, expanded the garden and managed the new area (approx. 20 feet by 80 feet) as a traditional collective farm growing their traditional crops in raised beds and involving the work of at least 50 members of the community. By 2016 the Austin Matu Community was managing the total garden space (approx. 80 feet by 80 feet plus small peripheral plots). Their skilled and diligent gardening was significantly more productive than the previous efforts. The produce is shared by the Matu Community and with the larger PLUMC community and its programs. One commonly gardened space -- several long raised beds in one large garden, and a few small island beds on the peripheryVaried2009privateNAIf there is interest in visiting the garden or learning the Matu Community's methods/practices, Bill Carter would be glad to help arrange visits.Garden Information: *Garden Name: Parker Lane Community Garden *Address:2105 Parker Ln. *Zip:78741 *English Contact:Bill Carter

The garden attracts many people to the new community. Many Sunfield homeowners have cited the garden as a major reason for purchasing a home in the neighborhood. More than 10% of the homeowners at Sunfield are renting plots in the garden. The excess food is donated to local food pantries. The garden includes a fig orchard, pear orchard and communal herb beds. Plans are in place for a xeric landscape around the garden to encourage wildlife and beneficial insects. There is a communal compost pile. The garden is peaceful, productive and gorgeous. Not yet assigned.https://www.facebook.com/thirddaycghttps://www.facebook.com/thirddaycg/While the garden is not understood to be a work of people of any particular faith, or any faith for that matter, it was originated by three faith communities with a shared faith story. That story begins, fittingly enough, in a garden. The third day was the day, according to the story, when all things which grow from seeds were created. Later in the story, the third day became the day of resurrection. All three congregations understand resurrection to be more than a “pie-in-the-sky” idea, but a work of re-creation here, now, in the real world. Part of our plan for re-creating community in a divided world, re-creating nutrition in a fast-food world, and re-creating nourishment in world where some go hungry is The Third Day Community Garden.
