Call to Order / Welcome / Introductions Jessie5The meeting was called to order at 6:45PM.

Approval of Agenda / MinutesJessie5Robert Jung motioned to approve the February 2017 minutes w/ the correction to the last name Lingle, not Ingle.  Chuck Lingle seconded the motion.  Motion carried w/ one abstension.  Robert Jung motioned to approve the March 2017 agenda w/ the addition of Budget before the Treasurer's Report.  Cheryl Flesner seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

News / Staff Report / Update

Principal's ReportPhil10The master schedule is progressing.  Will be hiring 9 teachers, this includes replacements. Hoping to offer American Sign Language class next year as an after-school program.  Also want to offer Intro to Anthropology on T & TH.  MHS students may be able to dual enroll w/ San Jose City College and take classes such as Into to Business, U.S. History, or Coding for example.  Trojan Olympics will take place on March 31st; you can buy tickets from ASB.  PSAT is scheduled for April 4th..

State PTA ConferenceJessie2Conference will be the last weekend in April in San Jose. $200 budget approved, and a 3-day sponsorship was donated by Bob Nunez. MHS PTSA President, Jessie Keung, will be attending.

Budget ReportKumi5Robert Jung motioned to change the PTSA Conference/Lunchen budget to $270 ($200 for conference, $70 for luncheon).  Chuck Lingle seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

Treasurer's ReportKumi5Treasurer's Report as of 3/22/17 was distributed.  PTSA received $1.98 from Escrip and $78.12 was reimbursed to Jessie Keung for the purchase of sodas to sell at the upcoming June graduation.  Cheryl Flesner volunteered to oversee the snack shack during the graduation.

Check RatificationKumi2Robert Jung motioned to approve payment for Check Request #11 to reimburse Jessie Keung $60 for the PTSA Luncheon.  Vangie Robillos seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.  Robert Jung motioned to ratify Check #1404 to Jessie Keung for the purchase of the sodas to sell at graduation.  Chuck Lingle seconded the motion.  Motion carried unanimously.

MembershipVangie2PTSA currently has 158 members: 2 community memebers, 8 teachers/staff, 40 students, and 108 parents.  Five members have not paid their fees.

PTSA Officers NominationJessie5Recruiting for President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Historian, and Parliamentarian for the next school year.  A committee (Mr. Phil Morales, Irma Gonzales, Regina Sueoka) has been assembled to seek candidates so elections can take place.  Mr. Morales will send out an email on SchoolLoop.  Chuck Lingle volunteered to serve as Vice President.

Flea Market/Comcast CareJessie5Comcast Care's employees, family members and volunteers will help beautify MHS on Earth Day, 4/22/17. Volunteers will get a free T-shirt and lunch.  MHS students can volunteer and get community service hours.  Comcast will give MHS $ based on the number of MHS volunteers we bring.  200 volunteers may generate approximately $3K.  Project includes landscaping and classroom cleaning.

eWaste Rob2ASB will assist in distributing eWaste 4 Good flyers.  They will come to your home to pick up your e-waste. So far it has generated a little over $52

Shoparoo/Amazon SmileJessie2Goal this year is to reach $125K points to get $225. Need more participation for Amazon Smile and Shopparoo (currently 41 supporters/42.5K points). Need to update our website. You can help MHS's indirect fund raiser by shopping on Amazon - go to smile.amazon.com and select MHS PTSA.

MCEERobert2Steam Showcase was held on 3/4/17.  Over 100 kids (K - 12th graders) showed off their tech projects and practiced their presentation skills. All participants got a T-shirt and medal. Next year, this event will take place the first Saturday in March.

MCEE scholarshipRobert Jung5MCEE is offering scholarships for Juniors who come from families in need (students who are on the lunch program).  Winners will be announced the first week of April.

MCEE Summer Job FairRobert Jung5MCEE is sponsoring a Summer Job Fair for MHS students on 5/5/17 from 9AM - 12Noon.  Employers include:  Great America, City of Milpitas, Milpitas Police, Milpitas Fire, Chamber Members, Taco Bell, Great Mall.  Students can also volunteer at the Adult Education and Humane Society for community service credit.  There will also be a Job Skills Fair where there will be presenters to discuss how to dress for success, how to interview, how to research employers, how to complete a job application, and how to develop a resume.  There will also be rooms to conduct mock interviews.  After on site hires, MHS will process work permits on-line.  Cost for employers is $50 by March 31st or $75 thereafter.

Graduation VIP Package Silent AuctionJessie2Graduation is 6/2/17.  VIP Package includes 10 tickets, refreshments at the reception, and get to sit w/ the VIPs.
