7/4/2022 1:44:22JuneEllawalage Methma Charuki PeirisWe had the first group meeting with our mentor Samangi on the 28th of May 2022. It was sort of like an introductory meeting. All of the mentees introduced themselves, our mentor shared her inspiring design journey with us and all of us outlined the goals we wanted to achieve during this six months of period and had a collaborative activity where we listed down all our goals as a group and categorized them into common terms. The next meeting was held on the 30th of June 2022. Mainly the whole team decided to start a new UI/UX project and come up with an innovative project idea. We figured out that the best way to execute the project was to integrate "Design Thinking". Our mentor asked us to get leader roles for each stage of the design thinking; by doing so, everyone can hone their leadership abilities. Since I was a newbie to the UI/UX field, I asked for some learning resources from our team members, and they actively shared them through our WhatsApp group without hesitation. Overall the meetups were very productive, and I learned so much about UX and research-related stuff from the experiences of our mentor and other mentees. Furthermore, these meetings helped me take the first step toward starting a new passion; UI/UX.One of the main goals I had in my mind when I joined as a mentee was to get inspiration to start my Final Year Project. Through the discussions, I discovered the "Design Thinking" process, and it enlightened me to start my project with motivation and a structured manner. Additionally it helped me to bottle up my fears when it comes to speaking in English.

7/17/2022 17:02:20JuneTeena Shivani Fernando PalappaI meet with my mentor twice a month, and our meetings are highly productive. We usually schedule the meeting for one hour, and we contribute to a shared agenda beforehand. Also, I am constantly in contact with my mentor through emails, where he shares valuable resources and I update him on my current progress. He assigned a project for me to do, and I keep him posted about it. Before I joined ScholarX, I was in a good academic standing and I had done many extracurricular activities. But, as an engineering student, I did not have much experience with technical projects. My mentor has directly addressed this issue and has helped me immensely to learn more and be confident of my own abilities. I am now working in a few projects, and I am extremely happy!

My confidence level went up. I never had a idea of writting a survey paper. But that is another great opportunity i gained during this period.

7/20/2022 0:50:35JuneAsiri EkanayakeWe have a 1-hour catch-up regularly every couple of weeks or so, on Saturday evening. In addition, we communicate in between via email (for example, I would inform Thusitha that I have updated my GitHub repo and he would check and give feedback).

The meetings are quite productive, I receive a lot of useful feedback, advice and information on resources. Because I am interested in cyber security, he introduced me to Google Capture the Flag Beginners Quest, which was exciting.
So far we have made a decent progress: I have been working towards improving my knowledge in full-stack through a personal project which is ongoing. I am also getting started on hacking-related events such as Capture the Flag and coding competitions like Google Kickstart

Yes. The sessions are conducted in such a way that the whole graduate studies application process covered in step by step. So, I tend to complete each step prior to the next mentoring session and it really helps me to stay motivated.

Our team met with mentor and our mentors previous scholar-X batch (class of 21) for a lunch out in June as he is in the sri lanka currently. It was a pleasant experience and we got to know everyone. After that, We started our sessions on the august. My mentor and the team met regularly during august (once a week starting from second week of august) .
Mentor initially had a one-on-one session with us to get understand each one in the team. He asked about my interest and what i expect from the program. I am planning and working on applying for my higher studies and I needed guidance for that and other aspect. He did show me where to start and clarified few concerns I had.

Then we had a team discussion and, He grouped us into two groups of two with similar paths. Currently, Myself and one other mentee works together on the initial phase in a project (discussing the ideas) as our mentor gave us the opportunity to work collaboratively on a research project with him.
In the mean time we are also working on new areas like writing research proposals, how to write SoP and other concerns.
The sessions were really helpful and my mentor is really supportive. Not only my mentor clarified the concerns i had up to now regarding higher studies, he also suggested that it would be better if we can work on a research proposal. I have few conference proceedings under my name, but haven't worked on a research proposal for a grant till now. so this is a new thing i want to try.
He also showed where to begin and asked us to look and identify few universities that i want to apply into as the next step.

So far, the involvement in the program has been a great pleasure. The opportunity to meet someone regularly and share opinions and to have useful feedback has been tremendously helpful. Even though the initiation of the meetings were a little bit delayed for our mentors' personal reasons. It was totally understandable and currently he is making up for it. We first met physically in June this year and our virtual meetings started in late august. Now we are weekly meeting regularly. Our mentor is very responsive to emails and flexible and open to arrange a meeting on request. He has been friendly and professional at the same time which makes it very easy for us mentees to open up and discuss our issues.
The communication has been regular and punctual. Starting from late august we had three virtual meetings. All the meetings have been very productive so far. At the first meeting the group of mentees and the mentor got acquainted. The two meetings after that basically focused on the future plans of ours and how the mentor can provide guidance. I hope to gain the maximum out of this program and thank you for this valuable opportunity.
Currently I am working on my application process to 2023 fall graduate studies. since I'm focused on united states my mentor has been such a valuable resource person. within this short period of time, he guided me to make my CV and SOP better.
