Hello! Welcome, it's lovely to meet you here.

This resource was begun in October 2026 (it's brand new at the time of writing) by the Lithgays - a queer community group in Linlithgow, Scotland. It grew out of a desire to connect with wider thinking around queer and social justice causes, to find new brilliant things to read, and to pass on recommendations of things we loved to others. We also hope it'll be a landing place and a starting point for anyone just delving into the wonderful world queer books (wherever in the world you are) - whether as a queer person, someone exploring their identity, as an ally or friend / family member. Most of all, it's a shared resource. A place to add to, build and grow together. It will change over time, and we'll keep working on it to reflect the growing collection, and to try to keep it manageable, navigable and helpful.

Some guidance to (try to) help things run smoothly:
6
7
This is shared, collaborative resource. So: please add your favourites! You don't need to ask for permission or wait for an invitation - add away! Queer classics, niche passions and incredibly specific interests all totally welcome.
8
Add your recommendations to whichever tab feels best (many books could fit across two or more categories; just use your judgement as best you can). We'll likely re-jig, re-name or add tabs as we go.
9
Please include trigger warnings in the 'notes' column if you can (but readers: please don't rely on lack of trigger warnings - we simply don't have capacity to check this comprehesively).
10
If you have an issue or quibble with someone else's recommendation, feel free to add that to the text in the notes column. Please don't delete someone else's suggestion. We reserve the right to remove anything that's hateful, prejudiced or against the ethos of this resource.

12
Does my recommendation belong in here?

This is a resource centring queerness. Books by, for or about the LGBTQ+ experience are all welcome - if something's been meaningful to you from a queer perspective, all good. Do just have a quick check that the book you have in mind isn't already listed (if it is, feel free to add more comments to the notes section).
15
Some of the tabs (notably anti-racism) contain recommendations that aren't specifically about queerness, with the aim of finding solidarity with, and expanding our understanding of, other social justice causes.
16
If in doubt, add it in! Generally speaking, the more the merrier :)
17
There's a tab at the end for queer bookshop recommendations - support your local indie bookshop! And where we find great round-ups of books on a particular topic, you'll find links to those at the top of each tab (in the yellow box).
