CHARGER (EVSE) ANALYSIS AS OF JUNE 26, 2021 - VERSION 4
2
Important:
You should select a charger (aka EVSE) based on your needs and not assume that your needs are the same as everyone else in this forum. Needs include the average number of miles you drive per day and the time to recover a charge. Most people only drive about 40 miles a day and start each day full or to a target charge. If you are an average driver, most chargers below can serve you. EVSEs have a wide price range usually based on charging speed (amperage) and brand. Don't assume you need maximum speed charging especially if you have all night to charge. As you consider this, compare your needs with the grid below. A low cost, lower amperage unit may suite your lifestyle and budget well but a higher power unit may be needed if your expected miles per day is high. Carefully review the grid below. Also, unless a suitable 240V receptacle already exists, installation may be limited or difficult because of your home's electrical infrastructure especially in older homes which may be more expensive for very fast EVSEs. Always get 2 or 3 bids from qualified electricians for the installation. If there are any questions, direct them to Tom Coleman or Sean Graham.

Popular Chargers (aka EVSEs)

Note: Most 16-amp L2 chargers are dual voltage and come with an adapter which enables the charger to also run L1. If you must replace the Bolt's stock charger, buy a dual voltage charger so you can go L1 or L2.
