28/07/201022, FXXOK, E, L, S+0=2?At last I replaced the final standard depth brood frame with a deep one, so now have a full complement of 11 in the brood box.
6
19/07/201028, SQXOK, E, L, S++4+1=2?Removed one of the standard depth brood frame from deep brood box. Brood split by putting the other standard depth brood frame at front edge of hive in hope of removing in next few weeks. Colony progressing very well. Super added of undrawn foundation - unlikely they will fill due to yet to be worked few deep frames in brood box? Remember to take along 2 deep brood frames at next inspection.
7
17/07/2010n/an/an/an/an/an/an/av. lowChecked drone (and worker) brood after taking it out of freezer. Hundreds of pupae checked - only found 1 varroa. Fantastic result.
8
08/07/201025, FXXXE(!?), L, S++3+0=1?Removed a fair bit of drone brood. Put in freezer and will inspect for varroa. No eggs or young unsealed larvae spotted - seems strange - possibly just missed them.
9
26/06/201026, SQXOK, E, L, S++2+0=14Huge brood rearing in progress. Deep brood frame foundation still undrawn on outer frames (5!). The 2 standard depth brood frames have significant drone comb and brood in space below them. MUST be removed for varroa control: some just capped, other uncapped, other larvae. Assume some capped yesterday, first will emerge in 15 days from now, ie. 11th July, so can remove at next inspection. Varroa board checked and removed. Varroa count small.
10
13/06/201020, SQXOK, E, L, S++3+0=1?New queen seen and marked (white)! Full range of brood seen: pattern good. Varroa floor introduced. Bees somewhat grumpy. Many (5+) unworked frames still in brood box. Still have 2 normal depth frames in there - should work them to one end before exchanging.
11
03/06/201017, SXXX1LXE, S++2+0=1?Queen cell introduced to colony last time still unhatched. It looked chewed at end - peering in the tiny hole perhaps something was visible, but no movement from within. Soon to hatch? Bees very grumpy. One of the other 2 old remaining queen cells was still unhatched (surely empty as 2 others were) but other had open flip top! Was this queen in the hive somewhere? Did not see her. No eggs present.
12
26/05/201017, FXXX2dudX. 2dudL?XE, S++2-1=1?Still queenless, no eggs or uncapped larvae. I broke 2 QCs open to find them empty! Other 2 left but may well be the same? Added 2 normal depth brood frames from Hive Bouidcca, one with eggs in and the other with a huge capped queen cell. Removed 1 super which still have foundation totally undrawn. Much comb in brood box stil undrawn. No more stores than last time despite hot weather.
13
17/05/201016, SXXX4SLXE, S++3+0=2?Queenless it seems from lack off eggs, unsealed larvae. 4 sealed queen cells: 3 on bottom of drawn comb face (frame 7 from front) and one on another frame high on the comb face (from 6 from front). Still lots of undrawn foundation in the new deep brood box. Supers with no more honey than last time. Upper super foundation still undrawn.
14
09/05/201014, FXXE, 4, OK++5-1=2?No real inspection, just removed frame with queen cells to start new hive (Cleopatra). Also removed brood-sized super (half with honey stores) for Celopatra
15
06/05/201013,FX3L, SE, 4, OK++5+1=3?N.B: sealed queen cells spotted (on bottom of short frame in deep brood box)
16
28/04/201022, SQXE, 2, OK++5+0=2?Eggs even laid on barely drawn comb in new deep (14x12) brood box. Super nearly full. Brood-sized super 1 third full. Prolific.
17
06/04/201016, SQXE, 5, OK++5+1=2?New deep (14x12) brood box installed with fresh foundation. Queen moved into it with standard brood frame from old box. Old box (with brood) put above excluder.
