Kip MountainA very pleasant 1.6 mile (round trip) well marked walk through open hardwood and conifer forest. Vertical is 814 feet. Some woods trail and quite a bit of old forest road, both in great shape. Nice views from where the trail ends near the summit of Kip Mountain looking to the west and south that include Crane, Gore, Hickory and a big view of Loon Lake. From I87, Exit 25, follow 8/9 west 3.6 miles to a right on White Schoolhouse Road, turn right agian and it is 2.2 miles to another right on Ben Culver Road, then 0.5 to the trailhead on the left. Or, from the intersection of 8 and 28 in Wevertown, go east 7.4 miles on 8 / 9 to White Schoolhouse Road. Plenty of parking. TH coordinates: 43.69253 -73.83732 Added by Kurt Wisell 5/9/16.

Palmer PondA gem! An excellent woods road leads from the parking area 0.4 miles to Palmer Pond. From there a trail goes all the way around the pond and has a few real good places for lunch or a nap on it's 0.8 mile course. Total length is 2.2 miles. Terrrain is rolling with about 250' total ascent but you probably won't notice it. If you're interested, there are also a few places to camp and the trout fishing is real good. From the intersection of 8 and 28 in Wevertown, go east. From the Riparius Bridge crossing the Hudson, go 0.9 miles to a right on Palmer Pond Road and then 0.8 to the parking lot at the end of the road. Or, from I87, Exit 25, go west on 8 / 9 6.2 miles to Palmer Pond Road. Plenty of parking. The last tenth of a mile is a bit rough but most any light utility vehicle (as in any Subaru) will have no problem. Nice pond to kayak. The carry is 0.4 from the parking lot. TH coordinates: 43.65350 -73.87583 Added by Kurt Wisell 5/9/16.

Speaker Heck Island PaddleSpeaker Heck Island on Lake George is designated as Picnic Island for day use. It is an approximately 45 minute paddle each way from Hearthstone Point Campground, is a favorite of many for its proximity to Lake George Village and ideal for large groups or families. The island, about a quarter mile long takes about 15 minutes to explore. The northern end has a cove that has been set up with large boulders for people to safely swim and play. The bald eagles nest had problems because of weather. Meet at 9:00 am in the lower parking lot at Hearthstone Point Campground , 3298 Lake Shore Drive, Lake George, where there is plenty of parking and is free on non-holiday weekdays for seniors 62 and over with a valid NYS drivers licence per car. Our 9:00 am meeting time will hopefully avoid rougher water that may occur later in the day.

The trail head is one mile north on Old Schoolhouse Road. TH Coordinates: 43.67729 -73.84246 Added by Kurt Wisell 5/9/16.
