4
A History of the Night-Wing Empire and the Destruction of the Aether Kingdom. Authored by Master-Overlord Raven100Required reading for any new acolyte to Night-Wing's ranks, it reads more like a storybook than a textbook. It was written by the leader of Night-Wing, Master-Overloard Raven soon after the founding of the cult to attract new recruits with the glory of conquest and victory. Despite it's obvious connections to Night-Wing, it is strangely persuasive to most kinds people regardless of race, alignment or personality. The original resides in Raven's personal library, but copies have been distributed across many dark alleys and shady markets under simpler or even blank titles.

Psionics: A Guide to the Intricacies of Mind Reading, Melding and Controlling. Pog, Vol and Thop, Gestalt100Written and composed at Mindbreak Chasm's University of All Things, this tome contains a series of (seemingly) incomprehensible lessons, diets, meditations, pilgrimages and rituals claimed to help one live a "Healthy and wholesome psionic life." It can typically be found covered in dust in the back of most libraries in any civilization's urban centers, as the writers wanted the information to be available to every sentient. The tome is generally considered to be a bunch of psychobabble and nonsense. However, contrary to those beliefs those who actually strictly follow all the lessons, diets, meditations, pilgrimages and rituals held within this tome for exactly one year will gain some competency with psionics. These individuals are usually sought out and recruited to the staff at the University of All Things.

Vincent H.E. Selkirk's History of Various Dreamscapes and the Gods, Deities, and Other Entities Found There In. Vincent H.E. Selkirk, Noble Historian and Adventurer100Educated with privately with only the best tutors, Vincent wrote this treatise after getting entangled with several artifacts and entities that propelled him into the depths of worlds unexplored. His writings are still used today as a basis for many things, and though brilliant, are certainly unscholarly at times. This edition has been reproduced from the original manuscript as there is excellent information held within for any scholars interested in the field of dreams.
7
Akel's Text of Unbidden Things. Penned by Akel Mored The Lost100An ancient text bound in the crinkly skin of some unholy creatures Akel's Text is a comprehensive guide to aberrant creatures and all aspects of the Far Realm. 8

9
The Rise of Magical Species100(Nature, DC 4, Knowledge Pool 20) Written by a ranger, this thin book bound in animal hide is a straightforwards examination of the way strong magical fields can alter animal evolution to create magical species, such as giant-sized animals or oozes. The knowledge in it can be used to help gain insight into any creature that is either descended or created from mundane beasts. A druid may spend 5 knowledge from his knowledge pool to gain the ability to wild shape into a mundane beast as long as he meets all the level-based prerequisites, even if he has not seen such a creature before. (The detailed description in the book is enough to allow him to understand the creature as well as if he had encountered it personally.)
10
The Cloud of Unknowing100(Religion, DC 7, Knowledge Pool 100) This book of mysticism does not provide answers to questions. Rather, it urges the reader to abandon consideration of the divine's particular activities and attributes, and be courageous enough to surrender one's mind and ego to the realm of "unknowing", at which point one may begin to glimpse the nature of the divine. At first glance, this religious meditation text doesn't provide any tangible benefit. In fact, failing a Will save (DC 21 read, 14 browse, 7 skim) grants the reader a temporary derangement (lasting 3d6+(DC) days. Each time this occurs after the first, there is a 10% cumulative chance that the derangement becomes permanent, and the reader will believe that they are, in fact, a deity. While under the effects of this derangement, the reader's Wisdom bonus is applied as a penalty to all Intelligence checks (except those made to read the book.) Their divine spellcasting DCs increase by one-half their Wisdom bonus. Non divine spellcasters instead gain the ability to cast one orison of the DM's choice, a number of times per day equal to their Wisdom modifier. On the other hand, should a reader gain all the Knowledge points from this book, they will gain the knowledge to ascend and become a deity in fact.
11
The Mapping of Portents, Vol. II 100(History, DC 5, Knowledge Pool 10) A single, thinner tome, bound in leather, with its name in silver gilt on the spine only. The swirled, deep blues and blacks on the cover are only broken up by a scattering of reflective dust, appearing as stars in the night sky. After a brief foreword, where Prof. Ensarai Dorough graciously accepts the praise from her first volume, and then outlines the need for a second volume, covering the most recent era gone past. This entire volume provides hand-drawn positioning of stars and bodies in the heavens, juxtaposed against the occurrence of certain, major events and upheavals in recorded history. Though in her acknowledgements, she admits these connections could be entirely spurious and unfounded, the professor also points out even savage warlords pay attention to the omens the stars foretell… This could be used with the Faulty Learning optional rule, as trying to read the events of the past as a blueprint to the future is inherently problematic at best. Those wizards and other spellcasters that specialize in Divination spells have advantage when reading this book.
12
Stranger in my dreams: This book talks about the author recalling a depraved creature who over time got closer and closer to her in her dreams. The book seems to be a diary and was never finished. When you read the last finished page in this book you take 1d8 points of psychic damage.100
13
Curiosity Kills the Cat: When you open this thick maroon colored book you quickly realize there is only one page inside. The text drips onto the floor as soon as you begin to read it. You cannot understand any of the text but you immediately realize the text tells of your demise.100
14

21
The Tao of Death' - This volume is missing from most sets after a book-burning campaign, but its existence is well known. This book is written in an old dialect that most people (even magic users) have trouble reading. It occasionally goes on long-winded philosophical tangents.100
22
The Tao of Secrets' - The existence of this volume is not widely known, and its veracity is debated among scholars; all claimed copies of this volume appear to consist entirely of blank pages, which nobody has ever manage to cast a spell to extract the information out of - thus suspicions that they're fake. But they do appear to be just as old as the other volumes ...100
23
Keeper of the Keys' - Whenever a creature reads this book, they slowly fall asleep then 'awaken' inside the book (their body remains in the real world). Living inside of the book is a half-man, half-dog extraplanar being who owns a copy of every key in existence, and whose only entertainment is reading books, but several of the books available for him to read are unfinished close to their ending. The party can enter the incomplete books to finish their stories (incomplete books could be a story of a great battle, a story where an assassin must be chased down, or something similar), and should they finish all of the stories given to them to complete, the Keeper of the Keys shall give them a key. Should they die inside of a book, a person will simply be ejected from it, rather than die outright.100
24
The Index Incarnatus100A monster of a book that has the titles of thousands of books written upon its pages in tiny script. Attempting to focus on one of the book titles makes the person aware of that books current location, pinpointing it, if it is on the same plane of existence or making them aware of the plane it is currently located on otherwise.Using this book has a cost, as focusing upon its mad jumbles of titles leaves the person open to otherworldly influences. The book detects as an Aberration to abilities that sense such creatures, and such searching through its words requires an Intelligence check, failing this check results is in the person seeing a book title not intended for mortal eyes and gaining a short term madness.
25
Why Do My Eyes Burn Written by James Idrun, who studied the 'Vuxolia' tribe200A book describing the strange ongoings in an even stranger tribe. They worship the sun. 26
Serrowen's Dissertations on Elemental Fire Magic Vol. VI: "Gods" of Fire and their Servants200An unfortunate low point in an otherwise excellent collection. Serrowen was vehemently opposed to any worship of gods claiming dominion over fire. The first few chapters provide a cursory overview of deities with a portfolio that includes fire. He then proceeds to spend much of the remainder of the text elucidating several arguments as to the "true" nature of fire and its independence from any divine control. It is unknown why Serrowen argued so passionately against fire gods in this text. Several late contemporaries have suggested that he may not have been the actual author. In a nod to prudence, later editions of the text omit the quotation marks in the title.
27

28
Mystery, Magic & Miracle: Religion in the Age of Humanity by Thimoth Learic200A study on how magic and faith changed in the dawn of the human pantheon. Prior to humans becoming a predominant race in the world, the majority of the other races had monotheistic religions and magic was simply an extension of the god's will. However, with the rise of the human pantheon, faith and magic became further separated and the will of the gods became fragmented into different entities.
29
Objects of the Gods: What Is Better Left Unfound. Chelsey Dawnwolf, Half-Elf cleric of Jundard the Sun God200While many adventurers search far and wide for relics of the Gods, Dawnwolf contends that they do more harm than good. The book is a catalog of catastrophic events surrounding holy relics, sacred weapons, and other objects that are god-touched.
30
Ancestors of the Gods200(Religion, DC 6, Knowledge Pool 50) Bound in leather and written in a shaky hand, this massive tome tells the story of what existed before the gods created the universe out of formless chaos. It is written by a former cleric who was hunting a leader among the aboleths and conveys his descent into madness and finally the loss of his faith as he learned far too much for his fragile mind to handle. The tome contains a lot of information about aberrations of all kinds, but it is hard to unravel due to the author's fragmenting grasp on reality (hence the high DC of the check). Additionally, use the optional Books of Madness Rule for this tome.
31
The Rule of Corellon200

34
Speak Infernal In Ten Days Written by Asmodeus Osatiel, who was an ambassador between humans and a series of devils300Sloppily written and difficult to understand, this book attempts to teach the reader the basics of Infernal. The useability of this book is long disputed, with many saying it is worth less then the paper it was written on, while others speak religiously of it's content. Many often blame this on the idea that Asmodeus was in fact a devil himself.
35
Orcs And Diplomacy Written by the late William Wildrider, in service of the king's request300William was ordered by his king to handle negotiations between the kingdom and an orc clan. The book details his experiences in setting up a peaceful agreement between both parties. Not long after finishing this book, war broke out between the two and this book was near-instantly discarded.

It includes historical records, mythological innuendos, interview transcripts, peer-reviewed user testings and more, compounding and analyzing all data within and between the different races, cultures and social ranks of the known world. In the 30 pages long foreword, the author reminds any potential interested parties that he welcomes any and all discourse, by letter or appointment. Tied together with the book is its companion book, which further explores the topic of securing potential aid from a third party, such as demonic pacts, a mind-bending Old One or a "Winged Man". It also includes the leaflet "Survival Guide to Succubi" used as a bookmark.
39
The Wonderfully Implausible Arcanum of Perplexing Conundrums, Dysko Fidgewidget, Gnome, Philosopher and Wizard of Duraval300Herein lies the most confusing conundrums and perplexing pieces of odd and mismatched information from here to the nine hells. Those who wish to gain a greater understanding of all things that cannot be understood, need not look elsewhere for this is the book (since they're already found it). From confusing scripture scrawled on old moisture sodden tablets, unusual and cryptic runes from a forgotten age, or to the location of that other sock that you swore you washed last night, but when you went to put on your fresh socks this morning it was gone. There is nothing to obtuse or convoluted too study. Spending at least 40 hours over the next 7 days reading this, you may or may not understand the world better and might perhaps become smarter.

Everything You Never Really Wanted To Know About Draconic Reproduction, But Are Going To Learn Anyway By Reading This Book. Migulio Candlechin, gnomish wanderer-bard, First and only Graduate of the College of Suraz300Despite the rakish title, it's a scholarly work dealing with the ecology of dragons; where they like to nest, their mating habits, how to best ensure the eggs hatch, etcetera. One chapter does describe "the acts", in even more detached clinical detail than the rest of the tome, albeit with little vomiting faces drawn in the margins.
41

42
Our Friends Below: The Art of Demon-Summoning. Tousba Autumnridge, senior Demonologist-in-good-standing, Faerûn Commission of Outreach and Tourism300The book is, upon first opening it, blank. This has, not surprisingly, affected its sales. However, pages can be revealed through a series of rituals and bargains. The first page, usually activated through a paper cut, will reveal how to access other portions of the book. By the time you get to the end, your soul will almost certainly be the property of several malevolent entities, but the payoff is, we are assured, worth it.
43
Stick 'Em With The Pointy End. Grock, Orc, Master Swordsman and Skilled Stabber of Things300This is a treatise on Orcish tactics and sword fighting. Grock himself did not write this book, but dictated it to a scribe. Leafing through it is clear that some pages have been torn or cut out from the book, perhaps map descriptions, fragments or clues to great mysteries, tales of legends or possibly even incriminating evidence? Who knows what Gabriel overheard in his years in the Inn? Who knows what other things some people may find useful in the book? Gabriel also speaks at length about his long interactions with Dwarves and how better to lever coin from their iron grips through flattery and taking advantage of their stubborn but fair nature.
51
Fey summoning, fair or foul? PROUDLY Written and Self Published by Veirfurn Blousiiere, High Elf, Former Student at the Arcane Zoological society, Til-Ferthic300The book opens with a plea to the reader that if they are of the ability to summon creatures from they fey for whatever reason they give serious consideration to the feelings of the creature they summon. He goes on to express his sincere concern that so many times these creatures are brought into being only for them to be killed moments after summoning so that some ignorant and cowardly "hero" who has just this week grasped the art of summoning can run away from the fight he more than likely started. The book continues in a very rant like style and his message is all over the place, often repeating himself and dropping former colleagues names into the mix. However, Veirfurns illustrations and information on fey creatures is very precise and his explanations of what is actually occurring during the summoning process is very interesting.

The Cry of The Earth. Vascal Tiernath, Elven Hierophant of the Steppes300A treatise detailing the controversial position that civilization should no longer harness the powers of captured elementals. Major cities, and citizens with the means, began capturing and pulling the power from elementals to power flameless torches, land ships and all manner of new devices that offer creature comforts. While Vascal empathizes with the urge to create and our innate curiosity, she also claims to have felt pain from these creatures and calls their use exploitive. In a particularly ominous conclusion, she suggests that it may be necessary for.a group of agitators to rise up against the practice swiftly, should elementals ever gain the capacity to communicate and organize themselves.
55

The second deals with self-control, especially in speaking and eating: "Be careful to whom, what, why and when you speak." The third deals with sexual morality, giving not only advice on seeking out a prostitute, but on choosing a wife.

Johannes Grishamm: The Puffin Tort300(History, DC: 4, Knowledge pool: 30) From the acclaimed scribe Johannes Grishamm, author of The Traffic Summons, and the Albatross Sub-Peona, comes another riveting tale of legal derring-do. But what happens when it turns out that the firm he’s working for is...EVIL? And will he ever make partner? The book is printed on cheap papyrus. On the front cover, there is a drawing of a puffin giving testimony. On the back cover, there is a small portrait of Grishamm. Aside from being a crackling good read, this tome also equips its readers with a thorough understanding of the legal system, as protagonist Briefcase moves through a fanciful world of filings, depositions, and court dates. The story is chock full of tips and tricks for dealing with judges, sheriffs, jailers, lawyers, and the other components of the legal system. Those who spend all the knowledge points of this book are entitled to send away to the publishers for a license to practice law.
57
Care For The Unwashed by Lady Lysophilia300almost certainly a pseudonym of the disgraced cleric Girandas of Tragapar, is an unsuccessful attempt to present a sanitized version of undead which could be cared for and integrated into civil societies. The book describes various charms and protections which, in the author's view, can make zombies and ghouls not only benign but pleasant to work with. It suggests that they could be used in "the construction and beautification of cities and temples." Naturally, its suggestions were never taken seriously. It was, however, relatively popular among a select group of nobility who kept copies hidden in their personal libraries.

Be anyone : The Story of the greatest spy300A highly exaggerated autobiography of a spy who assumes personas regularly. Tome of Thieves 300An unassuming black leather book, the title is embossed in thieves cant. Opening the book it seems like blank pages, but when heat is applied, by candle or magic the arcane writings reveal themselves, along with coded text describing how to best leverage the spells for theft. One must know thieves cant, as well as either break the cypher or already know it to read the spells or the text. Getting the cypher may be an adventure on its own. The book might be found on a dead thief magician killed by a trap, or stuck in a deep pit or sewer, or perhaps in a chest of confiscated goods, or used as a last resort to stop a door from trapping them in, or deadly trap from going off.

Artistry of Con300Acquired through a series of underground connections or black market dealing. It's referenced by other underground criminal works or memoirs, eventually leading to a copy. The book itself has an extravagant exterior, but cheap paper on the inside. It's spells are barely legible even after study, and is filled with ads for other books to help you learn and use magic to be the best con. The whole thing is setup to con people out of money every step of the way and never have an end to the con.
