Marilyn CassedyI am a confident helmsperson., I'd prefer to bring my own crewI've raced since childhood, through San Diego Yacht Club as a junior, at the varsity level as crew in high school and at Hobart and William Smith as helm for the women's team. In the last few years I've gotten more involved in keelboat sailing with crewing highlights including the International Women's Keelboat Championship last year in Rye, NY, the San Diego NOOD event this year in the J/70 class, acting as regular crew on a Farr 40 and Martin 242 at a local/regional level, and a trip to Martin 242 North Americans in 2015. My best racing performance as a skipper was winning our local "Women on the Water" event in August 2016. I had gotten a few opportunities to practice in the boat we borrowed during our weeknight series, but had very little time in the boat with all four members of the team we assembled. Although we hadn't sailed together much we all knew the type of boat we were sailing well and were able to win the event.

My best racing performance as crew was at the International Women's Keelboat Championship, where I raced with Liz Hjorth. Again, our team didn't have much time to practice all together, but our results improved throughout the regatta. In the end we were able to qualify for the gold fleet at a tough international level event through what we learned during the course of that week.
I participated in a match racing clinic held last year at California Yacht Club and am a regular at our informal Friday Night Match Racing series in the summer. I'm comfortable with the format, but I'm definitely looking to get more formal experience!Y
