Adaptive Physical Education through SUNY CortlandPhysical Education for children with special needs and their siblings – all ages. Your child will work 1-on-1 and in small groups with a junior or senior PE student from SUNY Cortland. Adaptive Toys & Equipment(Traid /Project Adapt): A regional center with an assisted technology lending library of toys and equipment to enhance the life of children who have disabilities, especially physical disabilities. There is no charge to parents for registration or for borrowing toys or equipment. Equipment can be picked up at a drop-off location in Cortland. Exceptional Family ResourcesParent to Parent of New York State Program Parents Helping Parents. Puts the parent of a child with a disability in touch on a one-on-one basis with a trained, supportive parent whose child has a similar or related disability. Offers support, encouragement and practical tips for families, information on resources and support groups. Based on the philosophy that parents who themselves have experienced the joys and frustrations of parenting a child with special needs can be a valuable resource to other parents. No fee.

Children with Special Health Care Needs Program (CSHCN)Identification of children who have or are suspected of having special health care needs and providing them with referrals to appropriate options to families and providers. Phone: 756-3439, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday -Friday.

Home Care for Cortland County, IncSkilled care in the home for children with developmental disabilities. In special circumstances, arrangements for care are made through Public Health Nursing or the Early Intervention Program.

PARKING PERMITS
Parking Permits for People with Disabilities: Disabled parking permits are available for people for disabilities. Contact your local police agency for an application and more information.
ACCESS PASS: An Access Pass permits a resident of New York State with a permanent disability, free use of parks, historic sites, and recreational facilities operated by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the Department of Environmental Conservation. For an application, ask the Early Intervention Program or write to Access Pass, State Parks, Albany, NY 12238.

Respite Program, Madison/Cortland ARC Community and Family Support ServicesIndividual family support and advocacy - includes information and referral. Respite Services - provides “time off” when families need a break from caring for their loved one.
