2	1	Ryan	Taylor	M	25	16:12	1st male 20-29	June 28, 2018 Debinski, Taylor Lead Fast Times at Century High On the day before the beginning of a heat wave, runners took advantage of warm but reasonable conditions to garner some impressive performances. Uniquely part of this event in the Twilight Series, volunteers get the opportunity to run in a second heat of the 5K. A total of 103 runners conquered the long hills in the Eldersburg and Sykesville neighborhood. Three women improved upon last year's winning time. Rebecca Debinski held off Emma Kartalia to take the victory, both over a minute faster than the 2017 winner. In third was Aidan MacGrath, at just 12 years old a strong threat for the future. Coming in at just over 26 minutes was another future threat, 9 year old Hope Faris. For the men, Ryan Taylor's winning time from last year was under serious pressure. Jesse Henderson cruised to a time 25 seconds faster. However, it was Ryan himself who was not only the repeat winner, he crushed last year's time by 101 seconds. In the process, he obliterated the old course record by over 20 seconds. His 16:12 could stand for many years. Steve Moore was well back in third, but in a time that would also win many 5Ks. For the future keep an eye on our youngest male finishers, speedster brothers Dario and Sal Lavelle. Our volunteers were well-stationed and appreciated at every turn, busy road crossing, the water station and finish line. Several of them, including race director Robert Holt, ran the aforementioned second heat. Our volunteers were Simon Crisp, Ryan DuLaney, Patty Engler, Liuda Galinaitis, Tim Gosnell, Lisa Lance, Joe Loveland, Genice Rill, Loel Romeo, Rick Romeo, Jean Smink, Paula Smith, Marla Salzman and Deb T. Next up for the series in two weeks is the FSK 6K, located in Union Bridge at Francis Scott Key High School. Before that, on Sunday, July 8 at 8:00am, is the WRRC WDF 5K at the Union Mills Homestead Park. That's a great event for women to run and for men to volunteer.
