Mental Health Association CA Warm LineAll of Californiahttps://www.mentalhealthsf.org/peer-run-warmline/1-855-845-7415Mental Health Recovery model. Peer counseling. Hi all! I’m a program coordinator at the CA Warm Line (formerly the SF Warm Line). The Warm Line is an excellent free resource for folks who are either experiencing or supporting someone with mental health challenges. We are not a crisis line, but rather a support line that serves to prevent or deescalate crisis. We are staffed entirely by counselors who have personal experience navigating mental health challenges and the systems associated with them. Anyone is welcome to call. Please don't consider my working here as a barrier. While I sometimes answer calls, it is not my primary role. I use an alias (Marie), so if you hear that name, please feel free to hang up or let me know that you know me and I will immediately transfer you. And feel free to reach out to me (Mary!) with any questions.

NAMI - National Alliance on Mental Illness You can also search for your local chapter by entering your city or county and NAMIhttps://www.nami.org/Home800-950-NAMI, Or in a crisis, text "NAMI" to 741741NAMI saved my family, especially my parents, when my brother was finally diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. I think for my mom, as an Asian American, her choices were to die of shame or become an advocate. Because of NAMI, and God’s grace, she and my father became advocates. They received the help they needed to navigate the very broken mental health system and received the emotional support they needed to help them cope and survive, through the 12-week Family-to-Family program.
NAMI is organized at the national, state, and local levels. They are the biggest grass roots organizers of policy change. They also provide a network for people with mental illness and a variety of supports for families and friends of people with mental illness. (Don’t most of us fall into both categories, though?!)

Psychiatric Alternatives https://psychiatricalternatives.com/
While I can only speak to my experience with one doctor, he was smart, compassionate, and effective. There are a lot of barriers that keep people from getting proper treatment including the challenge of finding the right doctor, the costs, and the stigma around mental illness, but I would encourage any of my Oak Life brothers and sisters who have something they need to deal with to find the strength and courage to tackle it with all available resources.
