Govt. College, Malappuram was established in the year 1972 as an arts and science college in the government sector in Malappuram district. It was established for the social, educational and econmic upliftment of marginalised sections, minorities and women. So far, the institution has paved the way for higher education for thousands of youths who have been, in fact, the live presence in almost all walks of life in the district, the state, and the national levels. The huge number of students passed out from here employed in the Middle East and the gulf countries ensure their significance in the international level too. The college endeavours to give quality higher education in tune with changing times in basic science and humanities and inculcate among the students the habit of respecting pluralistic, multi-cultural, multi- religious and multi-dimensional order of the society.

Governance

Governement of Kerala
Being a government college, it is completely under the supervision of Ministry of Higher Education, Higher Education Department and Directorate of Collegaite Education.

University of Calicut
Since the college is affiliated to University of Calicut, the college follows all instructions of the University of Calicut with regard to academic affairs.

The Principal
The Principal is the head of the institution. He is the chairman of all administrative and academic bodies and presides over the process of framing policies with regard to the daily functioning of the college and implementation thereof.

The College Council
The College Council, headed by the Principal, is an advisory body that helps the principal in taking policy decisions regarding the College. College council is constituted by Heads of departments of study, two elected teachers represntaitives, office superindent and Librarian.

The Staff Council
The Staff Council is the larger body of the College Council in which all the members of the staff are members.


The College Development Committee
The College Development Committee is a statutory body in charge of monitoring the progress of the institution and mobilizing resources for its development. It is constituted with the District Collector as the Chairman and the Principal being the Secretary. Nominee of Directorate of Collegeiate Education, The PTA Vice President, Assistant Engineer of PWD, President of the Alumni Association,one senior faculty nominated by the College Council and the Chairman of the College Union are the other members of CDC.

Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)
IQAC is entrusted with the duty of forming and maintaining quality parameters and monitoring the academic and co curricular activities to ensure high standards in the curricular and co curricular aspects of the College. IQAC chalks out and presents the programs in the College Council, for quality enhancement, in the beginning of the academic year.

Admission Committee
Admission to UG and PG courses in the college is managed by an Admission Nodal Officer appointed by the Univeristy of Calicut who will be a faculty member suggested by the principal to the University. Nodal officer is assisted by an admission Committee Constituted by the College Council. Students are admitted by strictly folowing the rules of the Government and the University.

Library Advisory Committee:
This committee monitors the functioning of the library and suggests creative ideas for its better functioning. It is in charge of finalizing the proposals for purchase, and annual stock verification.

Purchase Committee:
This committee is entrusted with the duty of making arrangements for procuring the items (infrastructure, library, lab etc.) required for the smooth functioning of the college.

Accommodation Committee:
This committee looks into matters regarding the allotment of rooms. The committee ensures the proper utilization and maintenance of all the occupied as well as the unoccupied rooms of the college.

Right to Information Office:
The Right to Information Office of the College prepares the response to the queries asked as per the Right to Information Act of the Government of India. The Committee takes utmost care to furnish the complete details regarding the questions under consideration keeping the spirit of the Act.
