She will also be on the selection committee. Application and dedicated web page were created by team and uploaded to GHIC site by Ed. Received commitment and the following checks in September: $5,000 from Donna Wright + $1,000 from Hickory Furniture Mart + the addtional GHIC city portion of the budget that was carried over from 2021. Donna Wright sent a list of former Rudy Wright campaign supporters that we can pursue for additional funding. The ultimate goal is $17,000 with a 6% annual gain to support the scholarship funding indefinitely. Tracey will start promoting the scholarship to the community, partners and regional media the first week in January. Applications will be open from January 1-March 31, 2023 and then the month of April will be used by the selection comittee to choose a winner. Winner will be announced in early May and presented award on or around the closest week day that the initial HIC organization was formed (May 7). Update on 1/19/23: Spoke directly with Donna Wright and she approved press release and overall progress on award. Sent out press release to all Greater Hickory Metro regional media (Alexander, Burke, Caldwell and Catawba counties as well as Mecklenburg, Iredell, Avery and Buncombe counties), all schools in GHM region, all city government and municipalities in GHM region, all international firms in GHM region that we have contact emails for, all Great Decions participants, all WPSCA members and meeting participants, all GHIC BOD Advisors, all NC Consular Corp members, and many other personal and professional contacts of each GHIC BOD Advisor. Received confirmed media mentions/articles from Hickory (HDR, Focus, City of Hickory on main website + Hickory. Well Crafted. website + FB page + Twitter page, GHIC website + FB page), Burke County (Newsbreak.com), Taylorsville (Taylorsville Times) and Lenoir (News Topic News) print newspapers and online. Next steps: Collect applications January-March 31. Decide on official event announcing winner on May 5 or May 8 (time and location and details TBD), create selection committee, selection committee meets to judges all applications sometime between April 1-30 (TBD). Update on 2/16/23: Regarding RWIA, Tracey was scheduled to meet with Donna Wright for lunch yesterday to discuss, but she has COVID and we had to postpone until she is better. Hani has received one submission for RWIA but it doesn't seem to align with our GHIC mission and is not internationally focused. Will disucss at GHIC meeting this evening. Regarding GHIC grant, Hani has received (2) submissions from (2) LRU students for the same event/activity/conference (WorldMUN 2023 to be held in Paris, France from March 12 - 16, 2023.) It did not align with the GHIC mission as written so Eric asked them to rework it and resubmit it. They did and we will discuss as a group this evening at our GHIC meeting.
