American Girl HistoryThis class will use The Historical Characters from the American Girl collection, that focuses on the lives of various historical characters through United States history. Kaya'aton'my, representing Indigenous America, Felicity Merriman, representing English Colonial America, Caroline Abbott, representing the US War of 1812, Josefina Montoya, representing Mexican culture in Southwest America while under Mexican rulership. Each class will focus on an American doll, accompanied by a story and an activity that will make this class a true living history experience.

Unreal Engine is a 3D computer graphics game engine developed by Epic Games and is the future of game production. Students will be equipped with basic knowledge of how to code using its built in visual node-based programming language. We will design a playable 2D side-scroller game from start to finish. This will challenge the student’s problem-solving skills.

Books Beyond the Pages
Inspired by Charlotte Mason and the Five & Row curriculum this class will focus on bringing learning alive through books and engaging experiences that will cover a variety of subjects. Each book will take your child on an educational journey that will connect them to the content in a meaningful way beyond the traditional textbook/worksheet approach to learning. Some of the subjects covered will include; geography, writing, history, cooking, author studies, art, nature studies, music and literature. This semester we will introduce new books. The material offered will be new. There is no need to have done the Fall program to join the Spring program.

Broadway BuddiesAfter the incredible success of Annie Miss Andria and Miss Missy decided to dive into another theatrical experience and provide guidance for students on stage. The class will rehearse to produce a stage production for our last week of class.

Chemistry Explore the physical science of Chemistry! From atoms to balancing chemical equations, periodic tables to polyatomic ions, and bases versus acids, we will explore all High School Level Chemistry concepts. Dive into the chemical world around you through deep discussions and lab explorations. Students should have a strong pre-algebra grasp for the calculations involved in this course. Students will have homework and reading each week.

ChessChess is a great workout for the mind utilizing continuous problem-solving with changing conditions. This class will include some simple games to introduce the game of chess, or sharpen the student’s strategic abilities. Students learn to think ahead, evaluate multiple alternatives, and anticipate consequences. They improve spatial reasoning, visual memory and attention span. Studies show that chess improves cognitive thinking which, in turn, improves school grades!

Digital Sculpting and 3D Modeling with Blender Digital Sculpting and 3D Modeling with Blender. Blender is a free and open-source 3D computer graphics software toolset. Students will learn how to digitally sculpt from a sphere with brushes and tools to make various creatures and environments. After learning the basics of digitally sculpting, we will move to 3D modeling to make swords, spaceships, and treasure. The goal of this class is to allow the student’s imaginations to digitally come to life.

Digital Sculpting with Blender Blender is a free and open-source 3D computer graphics software toolset. In this course I will teach the students how to professionally use Blender’s sculpting brushes to construct Characters, Faces and Creatures from a sphere. We will render and color these artworks for web distribution and/or for your online portfolio. During the rendering process we will briefly cover materializing and painting to make their sculpt look professional.

Draw Fantasy CreaturesUnicorns? Dragons? Avians? We'll learn how best to draw all of them, and more! This class will focus on using shapes and shading to bring out the best in your art. We'll work our way from one culture’s fantasy creature to the next, and go over the legends and stories that brought these fantastic myths to life!

ELA: Writing and GrammarFocusing on grammar and punctuation rules, as well as proper structure and style for scholarly papers. Students will have weekly grammar work (worksheets) as well as complete an essay every three weeks. Essay styles and purposes will vary from persuasive character analysis to an MLA research paper, as well as a Bibliography and APA sociological analysis in the first semester.

Level A: For students new to or fairly new to IEW. Student should have the skills and grammar knowledge to create complete descriptive sentences We will cover dress-ups: -ly adverbs, who/which clauses, strong verb, because clause, quality adjective, and clausal dress-ups in the first semester. In the second semester, we will cover triple repeating words, hooks, and all sentence openers. This course begins with writing single paragraphs and by the middle of the second semester students will write a three-paragraph paper with proper formatting, structure, and mechanics. The final paper is a five-paragraph essay, compiled over the course of two weeks.

Learning roots at a young age enables students to utilize their new skills throughout their entire lives, making lifelong learning much easier. This class will incorporate activities such as games, creating a personal Roots notebook, written exercises, and dissecting words. These are intended to enhance memorization and provide positive socialization.

Knot tying skills will be honed in as the students make plant hangers, dream catchers and more. History Middle Ages Medieval Times Using Story of the World: Middle Ages, we will explore from Chapters 23 on... in this semester. This covers the fall of Rome to the rise of the Renaissance. This class is suitable for grades 3-5, where I will read to the students at the beginning of each class while they color a relevant page to the story and listen attentively. There will be a correlating craft project for each class based on the events we read. This course teaches History through an engaging story, sure to hold students' interests.

History with Carmen SandiegoWhere on earth is Carmen San Diego will teach students about geography and history, using the 2001 animated show Where on Earth Is Carmen San Diego? The plot follows: Carmen Sandiego, the lead of the criminal organization V.I.L.E, steals treasures from around the world, leaving historical clues behind for ACME agents Zack and Ivy, under the guidance of the Chief , to find, in order to capture her. We will analyze the topics covered in each episode including the countries visited and historical topics Carmen reveals.

For leather marking some techniques will involve applying color to the surface, such as with pens or markers. Others involve tools that pierce the leather, such as pricking wheels or stipplers. Wire, clay and beaded jewelry along with Leather stamping and tooling. Project based learning class where students spend 2-3 weeks per project or topic.

Kodu Game Programming Kodu Game Lab is a 3D game development environment that uses a visual tile-based programming language that is easy for anyone to learn. In this class the students will learn how to problem solve by completing tasks to construct a fun playable game.

Latin for Wizards Have you ever watched a movie or show with wizards, and they mysteriously utter a “spell?” Most of the time, these spells are in Latin. We will demystify the eerie spoken spell language. Spells are a wizard’s “prayer” or “wish” and students will learn the basics of Latin while learning new wizard prayers – I promise we will never wish harm on anyone else – we are good wizards! This class is appropriate for 4th – 8th grade. We will learn the Latin alphabet, basic verb conjugations, and noun / adjective declensions. Students will build their book of “spells” as we add new wishes for the conjuring each week. After this class, when students hear a wizard’s spell on TV they will chuckle with delight to know some of the words spoken in the Ancient Roman language.

Myths and Fables IEW – “Fables, Myths, and Fairy Tales” covers Lessons 1-12 in the first semester, appropriate for grades 3rd-5th. This class is appropriate for young and new writers to the IEW process. We will cover note taking and outline creation, writing from notes, retelling of narrative stories, summarizing a reference, writing from pictures, and summarizing multiple references. Semester one you can expect students to begin with writing one paragraph papers, learning the proper structures and formats, moving into three-paragraph papers that are broken up over three weeks.

Nutritional ScienceThis class will explore the fundamentals of nutrition as it pertains to the needs of the human body. We will explore nutritional content in foods, the purpose of macronutrients and micronutrients, and take a hard look at caloric intake (what is a calorie and how to calculate caloric expenditure). We will look at many of the body’s physical processes to digest and utilize food – incorporating some relevant anatomy and physiology. We will look at a “healthy” diet as a perspective of what a body needs at any given stage in life. Students will learn to think critically about the foods they eat and compare the nutrient density of foods by examining vitamin, mineral, fat, sugar, protein, and chemical content. This will all enable students to make the best choices when it comes to food and beverage intake.
